Exhaust Temperature Sensor: Service and Repair

Removing And Installing Exhaust Temperature Sensor

Technical values

Information

Overview

INFORMATION:
- The thread of the exhaust temperature sensor can be screwed in again a maximum of five times.
- Use the Porsche high-temperature grease (part number 000.043.207.07) to grease the thread.

Preliminary work

1. Remove pressure pipe.
2. Remove air cleaner housing.
3. Remove throttle housing.

Removing exhaust temperature sensor

1. Remove exhaust temperature sensors from the bottom of the engine.
1.1. Loosen and unscrew cap screws -1, 3- for the exhaust temperature sensors at the turbochargers.
1.2. Unclip lines for sensors from the brackets -2, 4-.

1.3. Unclip sensor line on side 4-6 from heat shield.

2. Check thread of cap screws for damage.
3. Uncover sensor lines in the engine compartment.

3.1. Unclip lines on side 1-3 -1, 2- from the holder on the engine carrier.
3.2. Guide exhaust temperature sensors upwards into the engine compartment.
3.3. Unclip exhaust temperature sensor line on side 4-6 at the cable duct and uncover as far as the control unit.
3.4. Unclip exhaust temperature sensor line on side 1-3 and guide through to the control unit.
A piece of wire can be used as an aid to make the lines for the exhaust temperature sensors easier to install. Attach piece of wire or line and guide it through.

3.5. Remove control unit.

3.5.1. Pull cable plug -2 and 3- out of bracket -1- , disconnect plug connections -2, 3, 4-.

3.5.2. Release exhaust temperature sensor control unit -1- by compressing the retaining lugs -2- and pull it upwards in the direction of the -arrow- , then remove it. Remove exhaust temperature sensor control unit with the lines.

Installing exhaust temperature sensor

INFORMATION:
- The thread of the exhaust temperature sensor can be screwed in again a maximum of five times.
- Use the Porsche high-temperature grease (part number 000.043.207.07) to grease the thread.

1. Fit exhaust temperature sensors in the engine compartment.
1.1. Install exhaust temperature sensor control unit.

1.1.1. Insert exhaust temperature sensor control unit, then latch retaining lugs into the cut-out -2-.

1.1.2. Connect cable plug -2, 3, 4- , insert cable plug -2, 3- into bracket -1-.

1.2. Lay exhaust temperature sensor line on -2- left side at the left engine carrier and clip it in.
1.3. Clip exhaust temperature sensor line on -1- right side into holder -arrows-. Then lay to the right along the cable duct and clip it in.
1.4. Guide exhaust temperature sensors through to the underside of the engine on the left and right.

Use piece of wire as an aid if necessary and pull exhaust temperature sensor line down and through.

2. Grease exhaust temperature sensor before screwing it in.

Apply the prescribed grease to the surface of the front face and the thread -A-.

3. Fit exhaust temperature sensors at the turbochargers.
3.1. Clip in exhaust temperature sensor line on the right at the heat shield.
3.2. Fit and tighten cap screws for exhaust temperature sensors -1 and 3- at the two turbochargers. Tightening torque: 35 Nm (26 ftlb.)±3 Nm (±2 ftlb.)

3.3. Clip exhaust temperature sensor line on the right and left into the brackets -2 and 4-.

Subsequent work

1. Install throttle housing.
2. Install air cleaner housing.
3. Install pressure pipe.
