Removing And Installing Side Airbag (Folding Sports Bucket Seat)

Technical values







Preliminary work

1. Disconnect the battery. Refer to Work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
2. Partly loosen the front backrest cover at the inner side of the seat. Refer to Removing and installing front backrest cover (folding sports bucket seat).

WARNING: Incorrect triggering of airbag module.
- Danger of injury and damage to property as a result of incorrect handling of airbag units.
- The safety regulations. Refer to Safety regulations for handling airbag and belt tensioner units must be followed.
- The airbag unit must always be stowed so that the airbag opening faces upwards.
- If removed for an extended period, the airbag unit must be kept in a locked place.
- Remove ignition key. Disconnect battery. Route or isolate ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier (e.g. body, seat frame) is avoided.
- After the battery is disconnected, always wait for 1 minute before disconnecting the airbag plugs.

INFORMATION: If a new component (e.g. sensor, airbag control unit, airbag unit) of the airbag system has to be installed, the new component will be supplied with a barcode sticker (tear-off label).







- Tear off the tear-off label -2- on the new component -1- and stick it under the heading Proof of airbag system check/component replacement in the Guarantee and Maintenance booklet.







- The replacement date and mileage must be documented and the booklet must be stamped with the dealer's stamp.

1. Loosen the side airbag.
1.1. Lift up the side of the seat that was loosened -arrows-.
1.2. Unscrew the two fastening screws -1-.







2. Disconnect plug connections on the side airbag.
2.1. Swivel the side airbag out -arrow A- until the plug connections are accessible.
2.2. Release the plug connection -arrow B- and pull it off -arrow C-.
2.3. Screw off the fastening nut -1- and remove the line.
2.4. Remove the side airbag.







Installing side airbag (folding sports bucket seat)

1. Connect plug connections on the side airbag.
1.1. Connect the line and secure it with the fastening nut -1-. Tightening torque: 4 Nm (3 ftlb.)
1.2. Plug in the connector -arrow A- until it engages securely.
1.3. Insert the side airbag into the backrest frame -arrow B- and counter it.







2. Secure the side airbag.
2.1. Lift up the side of the seat that was loosened -arrows-.
2.2. Secure the side airbag with the two fastening screws -1-. Tightening torque: 7 Nm (5 ftlb.)







Subsequent work

1. Secure the front backrest cover at the inner side of the seat. Refer to Removing and installing front backrest cover (folding sports bucket seat).
2. Connect the battery. Refer to Work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
