Preliminary work


1. Disconnect the battery Refer to Work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
2. Remove front seat cushion. Refer to Removing and installing seat cover (folding sports bucket seat).

1. Pull off connectors on AWS control unit.
1.1. Release both connectors -arrows A-.
1.2. Pull off both connectors on the AWS control unit -arrows B-.







2. Remove AWS control unit.
2.1. Screw off the three fastening nuts -1-. Counter the fastening screws -2- while doing this.
2.2. Remove AWS control unit -arrow-.







Installing AWS control unit (folding sports bucket seat)

1. Install AWS control unit.
1.1. Position AWS control unit on the seat shell -arrow-.
1.2. Tighten the three fastening nuts -1-. Counter the fastening screws -2- while doing this. Tightening torque: 3 Nm (2 ftlb.)







2. Connect the two connectors on the AWS control unit -arrows- until they engage securely.







Subsequent work

1. Install front seat cushion. Refer to Removing and installing seat cover (folding sports bucket seat).
2. Connect the battery Refer to Work instructions after disconnecting the battery.
3. If the AWS control unit was replaced, the new AWS control unit must be taught and calibrated under AWS Control unit replacement. Refer to Removing and installing AWS control unit (folding sports bucket seat). Refer to Removing and installing AWS control unit. Refer to Calibrating AWS control unit.

Reading and writing values for AWS control unit

INFORMATION:
- The PIWIS Tester 9718 instructions take precedence since the description may be different. This may be due to more recent software versions.
- The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in the PIWIS Tester 9718.

1. Replace control unit. Refer to Removing and installing AWS control unit.

WARNING: Sudden voltage interruption of the power supply to the control module.
- Destruction of the control module.
- During programming, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the Porsche System tester. It is essential to connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the vehicle battery.
- Prior to disconnecting the control module, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.


2. Connect battery charger to the vehicle.
3. Seat calibration position - move passenger's seat longitudinally until flush with the seat rails and to its lowest position.
4. Connect the Porsche System Tester PIWIS Tester 9718 to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on ignition and press >>.
5. Select vehicle type.
6. Switch from the vehicle type to the list of control units and press >>.
7. Select AWS with the cursor keys and press >>.
8. Select Control unit replacement with the cursor keys and press >>.
9. The Tester displays several messages and instructions relating to the individual work steps until the message Control unit replacement was completed successfully appears. Press >>
10. To check the system, select the Actual values menu under the AWS control unit. Then press >>
10.1. Select the Weight class (0-4) and Total weight calibrated options.
10.1.1. If there is no weight on the passenger's seat, compare values (see table below) using the PIWIS Tester. The Passenger Airbag Off indicator light in the centre console must not come on.
10.1.2. Place the special tool test weight P 9742 on the passenger's seat. The Passenger Airbag Off indicator light in the centre console must come on. Compare values (see table below) using the PIWIS Tester.
10.1.3. Get an assistant with a body weight of more than 55 kg, for example, to sit on the passenger's seat. The Passenger Airbag Off indicator light in the centre console must not come on. Compare values (see table below) using the PIWIS Tester.







11. Read out and erase the fault memories in the Airbag and AWS control unit, perform a test drive and then read out the fault memories again. If faults are found, determine the cause using the PIWIS Tester and correct the faults.
