Technical values







Preliminary work

1. Remove seal for hood tip. Refer to Removing and installing seal for hood tip.
2. Remove inner hood lining. Refer to Removing and installing inner hood lining.

Removing hood covering







INFORMATION:
- The spare parts contained in the "convertible-top covering" scope of parts must always be replaced.
- The convertible-top covering must be replaced at a room temperature of at least 15 °C (59 Fahrenheit).

1. Remove restraining strap on main folding top bow.







1.1. Pull restraining strap -1- out of the fabric pocket -2- (-arrow A-) and disengage the tension spring -3- from the restraining strap -arrows B-.

2. Remove tension bow seal.







2.1. Unscrew fastening screws at the left and right of the tension bow seal and pull it out of the groove on the tension bow -arrow-.

3. Remove hood covering on tension bow.







3.1. Pull piping out of the groove on the tension bow -arrows A-.
3.2. Disengage hood covering from the groove -arrow B-.

4. Remove tension rope on hood covering.







4.1. On the tension rope eye -1- at the left and right, unscrew the fastening screw -2-.

5. Remove holding strap for hood covering.







5.1. Press fixing clip out of the roof frame (3) on the inner right. On the left side, press the fixing clip on the wire harness out of the roof frame (3) -arrow-.

6. Detach hood covering joint at the roof frame (3).







6.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- at the left and right.
6.2. Remove hood covering joint -2- from the roof frame (3) -3-.

7. Remove fastening strap on the main folding top bow.







7.1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- at the left and right from the shaped sheetmetal part -2-.
7.2. Pull fastening strap for the hood covering -4- out of the shaped sheetmetal part -2- (-arrows A-).
7.3. Pull shaped sheetmetal part -2- out of the main folding top bow -3- (-arrows B-).

8. Remove spring plate from the main folding top bow.







8.1. Press the spring plate -1- out at the left and right on the main folding top bow -2- (-arrow A-).
8.2. Pull the spring plate -1- out of the tension strap -3- and pull out the hood covering -4- (-arrow B-).

9. Remove hood covering at the sides of the roof frame (1).







9.1. On the roof frame -1-, unscrew the fastening screws -2- at the left and right and lift the shaped sheetmetal part -3- with the hood covering.

10. Remove hood covering at the front of the roof frame (1).







10.1. Detach the hood covering at the front from the roof frame (1) and lay it down to the rear -arrow-.

11. Remove hood covering at the corner bow.







11.1. Pull the tightening strap of the hood covering -1- out of the lower groove on the corner bow -2- (-arrow-).
11.2. Remove hood covering from the vehicle.

Installing hood covering

INFORMATION:
- If the convertible-top covering is very taut (with new convertible-top covering), close the convertible top and heat the convertible-top covering evenly using an infra-red radiator WE 00000.
- Ensure that the convertible-top covering is not heated for longer than 1 hour. Observe a minimum distance of 100 cm for the infra-red radiator and a maximum temperature of approx. 60 °C (140 Fahrenheit). Then leave the vehicle to stand overnight with the convertible top closed.
- The same effect can be achieved if the vehicle is exposed to direct sunlight.
- The spare parts contained in the "convertible-top covering" scope of parts must always be replaced.
- The convertible-top covering must be replaced at a room temperature of at least 15 °C (59 Fahrenheit).

1. Before installing the hood covering, the following steps must be carried out:
1.1. Check that all bolts and screws on the hood frame are seated securely. Refer to Replacing hood frame.
1.2. Replace the tension strap and bracing strap. Refer to Removing and installing hood covering.
1.3. Install rear window. Refer to Removing and installing rear window.

2. Fasten hood covering at the main folding top bow.







2.1. Lay the hood covering on the hood frame, fit the front tightening strap of the hood covering -1- into the lower groove of the main folding top bow -2- and centre it -arrow-.

3. Install the spring plate on the main folding top bow.







3.1. Guide the spring plate -1- at the left and right through the tension strap -3- into the hood covering -4- (-arrow A-).
3.2. Press the spring plate -1- into the main folding top bow -2- (-arrow B-) until it engages securely.

4. Secure the fastening strap at the main folding top bow.







4.1. Turn the fastening strap of the hood covering -4- at the left and right inward around the main folding top bow -3- (-arrows A-) and fit it on the shaped sheetmetal part -2- (-arrows B-).
4.2. Secure the shaped sheetmetal part -2- with the fastening screws -1- on the main folding top bow. Tightening torque: 1.7 Nm (1.5 ftlb.)

5. Secure the hood covering joint at the roof frame (3).







5.1. Secure the hood covering joint -2- at the left and right with fastening screws -1- on the roof frame (3) -3-.

6. Secure the hood covering at the sides of the roof frame (1).







6.1. Lay the hood covering to the front and guide the shaped sheetmetal part -3- at the left and right into the roof frame (1) -1- from above.
6.2. Starting at the rear of the bottom side of the roof frame, secure the hood covering with fastening screws -2-. Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

7. Secure holding strap for the hood covering.







7.1. Position holding strap at the right on the inside of the roof frame (3) and press in the clip -arrow-.
7.2. On the left side, the holding strap is secured with the fixing clip on the wire harness.

8. Secure hood covering at the front.







8.1. A cardboard strip and a self-adhesive strip are affixed at the front of the hood covering. Pull the protective film off the adhesive tape.
8.2. Fold the hood material around the roof frame edge without wrinkles -arrow-. The hood covering is initially held with fixing clips.

9. Secure tension rope for hood covering.







9.1. Position the tension rope eye -1- on the main folding top bow and secure with the fastening screw -2-. Tightening torque: 7 Nm (5 ftlb.)

10. Secure the hood covering at the tension bow.







10.1. Press the tightening strap of the hood covering (notch marking) -A- into the lower groove of the tension bow -B- (centre of tension bow is identified by a hole).
10.2. Secure the hood covering by tapping in the piping -C-.

11. Fit tension bow seal.







11.1. Press the tension bow seal into the lower groove of the tension bow -arrow- and secure at both ends with the fastening screws. Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

12. Secure restraining strap at the main folding top bow.







12.1. Engage the tension spring -3- on the restraining strap at the left -4- and use a piece of welding wire -5- to pull it through the fabric pocket -2- (-arrow-).
12.2. Engage the restraining strap at the right -1- into the tension spring -3-.

Replacing tension strap and bracing strap

1. Remove tension strap and bracing strap.
1.1. Loosen the felt tape -1- close to the tension strap -2- and roof frame (1) -3- (-arrow-).







1.2. Carefully lift up the plastic panel -1- (-arrow A-) and unscrew the fastening screws -2-.







1.3. Remove the tension strap -3- from the roof frame (1) -4- (-arrow B-).
1.4. Loosen the fleece tape -1- close to the tension strap -2- and main folding top bow -3- (-arrow-).







1.5. Drill out blind rivets -4- on the main folding top bow -3-.
1.6. Fold over foam strip -1- on the tension strap -2- (-arrow-).







1.7. Drill out blind rivets -3- on the corner bow -4-.
1.8. Drill out blind rivets -1- on the tension strap -2- and bracing strap -3- on the tension bow -4-.







2. Install tension strap and bracing strap.
2.1. Position tension strap -2- and bracing strap -3- at the holes provided on the tension bow -4- and rivet on with blind rivets -1-.







2.2. Fold foam strip -1- over -arrow-.







2.3. Position tension strap -2- at the holes provided on the corner bow -4- and rivet on with blind rivets -3-.
2.4. Position tension strap -2- at the holes provided on the main folding top bow -3- and rivet on with blind rivets -4-.







INFORMATION: If the fleece tape/felt tape is no longer sticky enough or is damaged, it must be replaced.

2.5. Stick on the fleece tape -1- close to the tension strap -2- and main folding top bow -3- (-arrow-).
2.6. Carefully lift the plastic panel -4- (-arrow A-).







2.7. Position tension strap -2- on the roof frame (1) -3- (-arrow B-) and secure with the fastening screws -1-. Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

INFORMATION: If the fleece tape/felt tape is no longer sticky enough or is damaged, it must be replaced.

2.8. Stick on the felt tape -1- close to the tension strap -2- and roof frame (1) -3- (-arrow-).







Subsequent work

1. Calibrate hood. Refer to Calibrating hood
2. Install inner hood lining. Refer to Removing and installing inner hood lining.
3. Install seal for hood tip. Refer to Removing and installing seal for hood tip.
