Body - Convertible Top Deck lid Won't Fully Close

Convertible Top: Spacer on Tension Bow (42/08)

Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (997)/911 Carrera S (997J/911 Turbo (997)

Model Year:
2009

Equipment:
Cabriolet

Concerns:
Spacer on tension bow.

INFORMATION:
- Calibrating the hood (PIWIS Tester). (PIWIS FYI -- In PIWIS the general RDW definition is hood, in North American its more commonly referred to as Convertible top)

- When calibrating the convertible top, it is possible that the top compartment lid does not reach the required end position or only reaches the end position (= convertible compartment lid closes flush with the body) when you "press on it with your hand".

- This is caused by the new (main folding top bow) spacer, which is installed on the tension bow from model year 2009 onwards. A thinner spacer has been installed since the end of July 2008.

Date of Introduction:
End of July 2008

Action Required:
In the event of a complaint, replace the spacer (--> Figure 1 -arrow-).

Parts Info:
997.561.961.00 New/-->. Spacer (incl. 3 blind rivets)

Work Procedure:
Install new spacer on the tension bow.

Information Complete removal of the tension bow seal and convertible top covering seal is not required. Only loosen the parts sufficiently to allow access to the spacer.

3 Remove old spacer. To do this, drill out the blind rivets using the 4.8 mm drill bit.
4 Secure the new spacer with the blind rivets, see corresponding section in - Workshop Manual '613055 Replacing hood frame'.
5 Install the convertible top covering on the tension bow and fit the tension bow seal, see corresponding sections in - Workshop Manual '612819 Removing and installing hood covering - section on "Installing"'.
