Symptoms

Rattling noises from around cover under dashboard at the passenger's side.

Causes and remedial action

Rattling noises can occur due to tolerances between the cover under the dashboard and the connection to the air conditioner and dashboard support.

In the event of a complaint, raschel tape must be affixed to the cover under the dashboard to remedy the situation on vehicles manufactured before the date of introduction December 2005. The bolting point must also be reworked.

Preliminary work

Reworking cover under dashboard at the passenger's side

1. Remedial action 1
1.1. Cut two strips of raschel tape each approx. 60 mm long.





Sticking on raschel tape

1.2. Wrap the guide lugs on the cover under the dashboard -1- with raschel tape -2-.
2. Remedial action 2
2.1. Drill the bore at the bolting point for the cover under the dashboard -1- using a drill bit with dia. = 5 mm to widen the bore by about 2 mm in -direction of arrow- ( -inset A- ).





Reworking the bolting point

2.2. Sand down the contact surface of the cover under the dashboard close to the bore using a sander -inset B-.

Subsequent work
