Diagnostic conditions
- Coolant temperature when engine starts < 40 °C (104 °F)
- Engine running (calculated without overrun phases) for 4 ... 20 minutes (depending on intake air temperature at engine start)
- No detection of coolant temperature sensor fault

Possible fault causes
- Air in cooling system
- Influence by engine-block heater
- Seal in thermostat housing faulty
- Thermostat housing faulty
- Thermostat faulty
