Oil Level Sensor: Service and Repair

Preliminary work

WARNING

Engine oil is toxic.

- Danger of poisoning.

-> Do not consume food or drink while working (danger of mixing).
-> If swallowed, observe the warning information on the containers, contact a doctor if necessary and show the information on the containers.

WARNING

Danger of scalding with hot engine oil.

-> Allow engine and components to cool down.
-> Avoid contact with the skin and eyes.
-> Wear suitable protective clothing.

WARNING

Oil is combustible.

- Risk of fire due to oil and hot components (exhaust manifold, etc.)

-> Do not pour engine oil over very hot components (e.g. turbocharger).
-> Never place cloths soaked with oil on hot engine components.
-> In case of fire, use CO2 or dry powder fire extinguishers.

Removing oil level sensor

1. Disconnect the electric connector at the oil level sensor. Use the assembly tool T10118 if necessary. Confined work area under the engine carrier and front axle.

2. Loosen the fastening screws and pull the oil level sensor out of the oil pan. Oil will continue to drip.

3. Replace sealing ring for oil level sensor.

Installing oil level sensor

1. Replace sealing ring for oil level sensor.
2. Fit oil level sensor. Turn carefully when inserting sensor. Tighten the three fastening screws. => Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

3. Fit cable plug.

Subsequent work

1. Fit engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panel) on DFI engines - section on "Installing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard (underbody panelling)
