Changing ATF








Preliminary work

Preliminary work for replacing ATF

1. Remove engine guard.

Information:
^ Only part of the total change quantity can be filled because of the test specifications stipulated for the ATF.
^ The rest must then be filled as described in the Checking ATF section.

Information:
^ Modified ATF filling capacities in the transmission in combination with new control units.
^ Observe numbers on transmission and control unit.

1. Remove cover of ATF pan. To do this, loosen the two fastening screws -arrows-.

2. Place oil-collecting container underneath the vehicle.

Warning:
Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF


-> Allow ATF to cool down

-> Wear personal protective equipment (goggles, gloves)

Information:
^ ATF must be changed when the engine/transmission is cold.

3. Unscrew oil drain plug -1- and drain ATF.

4. Screw in oil drain plug -1- with new sealing ring. -> Tightening torque: 28 Nm (21 ftlb.)
5. Disconnect the connection on the charge air cooler. To do this, remove the locking clip -arrow- and pull off the line.

6. Disconnect intake pipe for the engine. To do this, remove locking clip -arrow- and pull off the line.

Information:
^ Counter when loosening the ATF lines.

7. Undo ATF line screw connection on cooler side -arrows- at the thermostat.

8. Unscrew bolt securing ATF thermostat holder -1- and ATF line to thermostat -2-.

Warning:
Danger of scalding and chemical burns from hot ATF


-> Allow ATF to cool down

-> Wear personal protective equipment (goggles, gloves)

9. Hold shop-made tool WE 00000 -Picture- under the ATF thermostat.

10. Drain ATF from ATF cooler.

Information:
^ Counter when fastening the ATF lines.

11. Secure ATF line screw connection on cooler side -arrow- at the thermostat. -> Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)

12. Screw in bolt securing ATF thermostat holder -1- and ATF line to thermostat -2-. -> Tightening torque: 3.5 Nm (2.5 ftlb.)

13. Fit intake pipe for engine. To do this, insert the locking clip -arrow- and push line on until it engages.

14. Insert locking clip -arrow- on charge air cooler intake pipe and push line on until it engages.

15. Unscrew ATF inspection plug/filler screw -2-.

16. Fill with ATF using material 00000 until oil emerges at the lifting pipe.





17. Screw in ATF inspection plug/filler screw -2-. -> Tightening torque: 70 Nm (52 ftlb.)

18. Install cover of ATF pan. To do this, tighten the two fastening screws -arrows-. -> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

Reworking for replacing ATF

1. Fit engine guard.
2. Check and if necessary, top up the ATF.
