Removing and installing rocker switch for Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)

Rocker switch

The rocker switches -4- can only be replaced together with the steering wheel cover. For a perfect fit, the inside of the steering wheel trim is greased at two places and is also bonded to the steering wheel at six places. When fitting the steering wheel trim for the first time, a two component adhesive set (Porsche Part No. 000.043.207.48) must be used.

Preliminary work

1. Remove driver's airbag unit.

2. Remove steering wheel.

Replacing steering wheel trim and rocker switches

The illustrations below show how to remove the left rocker switch. The description also applies for the right rocker switch.

1. Remove the steering wheel trim (module).
1.1. Lever off the cover -1- on the rocker switch.

Carefully lever off cover -1- on rocker switch using a plastic wedge -2- and remove it.

New covers -1- are supplied with the steering wheel cover.

1.2. Release rocker switch.

Unscrew screws -2- on the rocker switch -1-.

1.3. Remove steering wheel cover (module) -3-.
1.3.1. Release compression spring -1- in a downward direction -right arrow- and disengage the securing clip -2- by pressing it up -left arrow-.
1.3.2. Remove steering wheel cover -3-.

Place the steering wheel on a suitable surface so that you have enough space for pressing off the steering wheel cover -3-.

Fit a 1/2-inch extension on the steering wheel cover -3- and press the steering wheel cover -3- off the steering wheel by tapping with a hammer. Repeat the procedure on the other side and remove the steering wheel cover -3-.

2. Install steering wheel cover.

Rocker switch

The rocker switches -4- can only be replaced together with the steering wheel cover. For a perfect fit, the inside of the steering wheel trim is greased at two places and is also bonded to the steering wheel at six places. When fitting the steering wheel trim for the first time, a two component adhesive set (Porsche Part No. 000.043.207.48) must be used.

2.1. Affix the steering wheel cover (module) to the steering wheel -1-.
2.1.1. Fill mounting points (6 ea) -arrows- for the steering wheel cover (module) with two-component adhesive.





Bonding mounting points on cover

Use a two-component adhesive set (Part No. 000.043.207.48) together with a mixing tube 000.043.207.50 and metering pistol 000.043.207.52 for this.

2.1.2. The mounting points -2- are greased. They do not need to be regreased.
2.1.3. Clip the steering wheel cover -3- into the steering wheel -1-.

2.1.4. Lock the steering wheel cover -3-.

Press the securing clip (locking mechanism for airbag unit) -2- down -left arrow- and engage it. Engage the compression spring -1-.

2.2. Secure the rocker switch.

Screw in screws -2- on the rocker switch -1-.

2.3. Press on and engage cover on rocker switch.

New covers are supplied with the steering wheel cover.

2.4. Check the mechanical operation of the rocker switches.

3. Check again that the securing clip -2- for the locking mechanism for the airbag unit is seated correctly and does exactly what it is supposed to do. "Exactly what it is supposed to do" means: When you slide the securing clip up evenly (against the spring force) and then let it go, the securing clip -2- must be pressed down again (by the force of the compression spring) -1-.

Subsequent work

1. Install the steering wheel.
2. Remove driver's airbag unit.
