Removing and installing shift and selector cables





Preliminary work

Danger
Vehicle raised incorrectly
Danger of fatal injury and material damage should the vehicle fall down


- Jack the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.

1. Jack and raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.
2. Remove rear wall cover.
3. Remove engine compartment lid.
4. Remove shift lever knob.
5. Remove centre console.
6. Remove handbrake lever.

Removing shift and selector cables

1. Disengage shift and selector cables on the transmission.

Lever shift cable (with grey sealing cap) -1- and selector cable (with blue sealing cap) -2- off the ball pin and disengage from the support bracket.

2. Lock the gearshift lever.





Fitting locking bridge

Locking bridge P 9619/1 must be fitted on the gearshift bracket.

3. Disengage shift and selector cables on the gearshift bracket.
3.1. Open bayonet locks on the pre-selector and shifting connections.

3.2. Disengage adjustment pin on pre-selector and shifting connections.

3.3. Unclip support on the gearshift bracket.

4. Remove shift and selector cables from the holder.

Lever off holder -1- at the lock -arrow- and remove parking lock cable -2- and B+ cable.

Shift cable on resonance tube

5. Remove shift and selector cables.
5.1. Disengage shift cable -1- on the holder -bottom arrow- for the resonance tube -3-.
5.2. Pull shift and selector cables -1, 2- out through the opening of the engine compartment lid -top arrow-.
5.3. Pull shift and selector cables out through the bulkhead panel into the vehicle interior.

The nuts were already loosened together with the rear wall cover.

Installing shift and selector cables

Information
The assembly and transport sleeves that are fitted on the adjustment pins of the shift cable must not be removed until just before you engage the adjustment pins in the gearshift bracket.

Information
During installation of the shift and selector cables, the transmission must be engaged in neutral.

1. Fit shift and selector cables.
1.1. Slide shift and selector cables from the vehicle interior through the bulkhead panel.

The nuts will only be screwed on and tightened together with the rear wall cover.

Shift cable on resonance tube installation

1.2. Fit shift and selector cables -1, 2- through the opening of the engine compartment lid towards the transmission and move into position -top arrow-.
1.3. Engage shift cable -1- on the holder -bottom arrow- for the resonance tube -3-.
2. Locking bridge P 9619/1 must be fitted on the gearshift bracket.

3. Remove transport and assembly sleeves from the adjustment pins.
4. Connect shift and selector cables on the gearshift bracket.
4.1. Clip in support on the gearshift bracket.

The support with the blue hinged tube must be fitted on the left and the support with the black hinged tube must be fitted on the right.

4.2. Insert adjustment pin without tension into the pre-selector and shifting connections and press down firmly.

4.3. Close bayonet locks on the pre-selector and shift connections.

5. Engage shift cable (grey end piece) -1- and selector cable (blue end piece) -2- into the support on the transmission and press end pieces onto the ball joints.

Subsequent work

1. Locking bridge P 9619/1 must be removed.

2. Install handbrake lever.
3. Install rear wall cover.
4. Install engine compartment lid.
5. Install shift lever knob.
6. Install centre console.
7. Lower the vehicle.
