Removing and installing transmission control unit (PDK)
Preliminary work
1. Remove trim panel for rear luggage compartment (carpet lining) at the right.
2. If the control unit has to be replaced, the values must be read out of the PDK control unit using the PIWIS Tester 9718 before removing the control unit.

Warning
Sudden voltage interruption of the power supply to the control module.

- During programming, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the Porsche System tester. It is essential to connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the vehicle battery.
- Prior to disconnecting the control module, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
1. Remove transmission control unit (PDK) and holder.
1.1. Release the two connectors -arrows A- and pull them off -arrows B-.
1.2. Unscrew fastening screw -1-.
1.3. Remove transmission control unit (PDK) and holder -arrow C-.

2. Remove transmission control unit (PDK).
2.1. Open locking bar -2- (-arrow A-).
2.2. Release the holder at the four clips -arrows B- and remove transmission control unit (PDK) -1- from the holder -arrow C-.

1. Install transmission control unit (PDK)
1.1. Press transmission control unit (PDK) -1- into the holder -arrow A- until the four clips -arrows- engage securely.
1.2. Close the locking bar -2- (-arrow B-) until it engages securely.

2. Install transmission control unit (PDK) and holder.

2.1. Place transmission control unit (PDK) and holder in installation position. Make sure that the clips -1- engage correctly in the guides -2-.
2.2. Insert transmission control unit (PDK) -arrow A-.

2.3. Tighten fastening screw -1-.
2.4. Plug in connectors -arrows B- until they engage securely.
Subsequent work
1. Install trim panel for rear luggage compartment (carpet lining) at the right.
2. If the PDK transmission control unit was replaced, the PDK transmission control unit must be programmed and calibrated.

- Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
- Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
- Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least - Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle battery.
Warning
The vehicle can move automatically while you are calibrating the transmission control unit (PDK).
The raised vehicle can fall from the lifting platform, for example.
Danger of crushing.
Risk of damage to or from objects.
- During calibration, the brake pedal must be blocked using a commercially available brake pedal lock.
- The handbrake must be engaged.
- The vehicle must not be raised and must be standing on its wheels.

The PIWIS Tester 9718 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in the PIWIS Tester 9718.
1. Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on the ignition and press ] to continue.
2. Select vehicle type.
3. Select PDK and press ].
4. Select Read out values in the Control unit replacement menu and press ].
5. The Tester confirms that the Values were read out. Press ].
6. Remove the "old" PDK control unit and install the "new" PDK control unit.
7. Select PDK, Control unit replacement and Write values. Then press ].
8. Select Program control unit and press ]. Then read the warning notes on the Tester.
9. Select vehicle type and press ].
10. Start programming by pressing F8. Data is then written.
11. The Tester displays the confirmation Programming was completed successfully.
12. Read out the PDK fault memory and check whether faults P1870, P1871 and P174B are present.
12.1. If faults are present, correct the faults according to Guided Fault Finding instructions.
12.2. If there are no faults present, proceed with the calibration process.
13. Select the Calibration menu and press ].
14. Confirm the warning notes on the Tester by pressing F7.
15. Start the calibration process by pressing F8.
16. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
16.1. Shift travel is calibrated.
16.2. Hydraulics are calibrated.
16.3. Clutches are calibrated.
17. The Tester displays the message Calibration successful. Press ]. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
18. Select the Coding menu, then Country coding and press ].
19. Country version must now be selected. Press F8 to start coding. Then press [.
20. Read out and erase all fault memories.
21. Exit the menu and perform a test drive. Read out the fault memory for all control units after the test drive.
