Diagnostic information - DME (DFI)

Coolant temperature implausible

Diagnostic conditions
- Coolant temperature at engine start less than 30 °C (86 °F)
- Engine running (calculated without overrun phases) 4 ... 20 minutes (depending on the intake air temperature when the engine is started)
- No electrical fault detected in coolant temperature sensor

Possible fault causes
- For PDK transmission:
- Coolant shutoff valve stuck open (e.g. vacuum hose not connected)

- Air in cooling system
- Seal in thermostat housing faulty
- Thermostat housing faulty
- Thermostat faulty
- Influence by block heater
- Coolant temperature sensor fault (out of adjustment)

Fault setting condition(s)
- Coolant temperature Engine to less than 70 °C, at:
- Diagnosis end (See INFORMATION 2)

Fault effects
- Engine temperature = temperature model (as substitute value for Coolant temperature Engine)
- The fault can be healed only if the thermostat has been tested and found to be OK.

INFORMATION
1. Diagnosis starts under the following conditions:
- if the system was free of faults before
- Coolant temperature Engine at Engine start less than 70 °C (°F)

- if fault has been previously detected in the system
- Intake air temperature at Engine start less than 70 °C (°F) (Substitute value Engine temperature only for Engine start)

2. Diagnosis is ended,
- to more than 3 Minute(s) Engine running (calculated without Overrun phase(s)),

and if:
- the calculated temperature model reaches 70 °C (158 °F) before the measured coolant temperature has reached 70 °C (fault entry),
or
- the measured coolant temperature reaches 70 °C (158 °F) before the calculated temperature model has reached 70 °C (NO fault entry).
