Model year:

Information

^ Document with limited validity

This Quick Information is valid until April 30, 2010

Vehicle Type:

911 Turbo (997)

Concerns:

DME control unit:

- Fault code P2080/2081/2082/2083 (exhaust temperature sensor).

Information:

- Complaint: Low engine power,

- Maintenance and/or repair work,

- Vehicle diagnosis using PIWIS Tester 9718.

It is possible that the fault codes specified above will be displayed in the DME fault memory during vehicle diagnosis in the course of maintenance and/or repair work.

In addition, the customer may find that - in conjunction with the fault codes - the engine does not have enough power.

The fault memory entry is caused by the exhaust temperature sensor (referred to below as sensor").

Action Required:

Until further notice, the following procedure applies in the event of a complaint:

Disconnect the electric connection between the sensor control unit and the DME control unit at the sensor control unit and fit an "empty" connector housing on the wire harness on the DME side. Do not replace the sensor.

This measure has no effect on the engine's emissions, power or component protection.

We will let you know what further action is required at the relevant time.

Installation Position:

The sensor control unit is installed in the rear left of the engine compartment (-arrow-).

Material:

The following parts from the cable repair set Nr.155-1 Pos.1 are required for this measure:

Cartool No. 96 0 131, 4-pin housing (1 required) (-A-).
Cartool No.96 0 453, dummy plug, green (4 required) (-B-).

If your cable repair set does not include the specified parts, you can order them from the parts department under the following part numbers:
For Cartool No. 96 0 131 order part number
PNA 721 043 00 131
For Cartool No.96 0 453 order part number
PNA 721 043 00 453

Work Procedure:

1 Complete the "empty" connector housing with the dummy plugs (--> Figure 2).

2 On the sensor control unit, unplug the connector for the wire harness on the DME side
--> 216420 Removing and installing exhaust temperature sensor

3 Push the "empty" connector housing onto the connector on the DME side.

4 Secure the wire harness on the DME side in the sensor control unit area with tie-wraps.

5 Use PIWIS Tester 9718 to check whether there are other fault entries in the DME control unit.

If there are: Correct the faults; then erase the fault memory.
End of action required.

If not: Then, erase the fault memory.
End of action required.

Information

Following conversion to an empty" connector housing and after starting the engine, fault codes P0544... to P0549 are entered in the DME control unit. Please ignore these fault codes.

Fault codes P2080... to P2083 do not occur again after erasing the fault memory.

Documentation:

To track cases that arise in the course of field observation and warranty processing, please observe the following procedure:

^ Document the action required in the related PQIS Job by entering 21640 (exhaust temperature sensor) under Location" and 9735 as the Symptom" (Repair in accordance with PAG instructions).

^ Process the related warranty claim by specifying damage code 2164 97 000, repair code 1.
