Preliminary work

DANGER

Vehicle can fall down

- Risk of squashing or crushing
- Risk of damage to the vehicle

-> Do not place any solid objects under the raised vehicle.
-> Ensure that the lifting platform is prevented from lowering.
-> Remove solid objects before lowering the vehicle.
-> Raise the vehicle only at the take-up points provided.
-> The outer take-up points should be used primarily.

1. Open coolant closure cap in the service tray.
2. Raise the vehicle.
-> 4X00IN01 Lifting the vehicle Service and Repair.
3. Drain coolant.
-> 193817 Draining and filling coolant Service and Repair.
4. Remove the rear axle cross member.
-> 420619 Remove and install rear axle cross member 420619 Removing and installing rear-axle cross member.

-> Support the engine with the prescribed tool.

Information

- The following procedure is necessary for various tasks.

1. Prepare Master Gear unit elevating platform WE 1206 -1- for support.
-> 1001IN Tools for removing units and working on the engine assembly support Tools and Equipment.

1.1. Position support 9769/1 -2- for vehicles with Doppelkupplung or support 9769/2 -3- for manual transmission vehicles on lifting platform.
1.2. Fasten retainer plate 9769 -4- on lifting platform with three screws.
2. Place lifting platform under engine/transmission unit.
2.1. Align retainer plate 9769 with engine mounting points -arrows-. Make sure that the pins fit into the bores.

2.2. Position required transmission support -1- on the transmission.

2.3. Slowly raise lifting platform and support engine / transmission unit with a slight degree of pretension.
3. Loosen transmission mount.
3.1. Loosen two hexagon nuts (A/f 13) -1- each on the transmission mount and remove the screws.

3.2. Unscrew two M10 screws -1- on the left transmission support and remove with the transmission mount.

3.3. Unscrew two M10 screws -1- on the right transmission support and remove with the transmission mount.

4. Unscrew four M10 hexagon collar nuts -arrows- on the engine carrier.

5. Unscrew four M10 threaded bolts -3-. To do this, use a Torx socket wrench insert.

6. Lower the engine / transmission unit using the lifting platform for the corresponding following activities.

Lift the engine

DANGER

Risk of engine falling down.

- Danger of fatal injury, material damage.

-> Support the engine with the prescribed tool.

1. Fit M10 x 84 threaded bolts for engine carrier.
=> Tightening torque: 5 ftlb. (3.5 ftlb.)
2. Lift engine to installation position with the Master Gear unit elevating platform WE 1206.
3. Install transmission mount.
3.1. Position and tighten two M10 x 35 hexagon-head bolts on transmission
=> Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)
3.2. Position and tighten two M8 hexagon nuts on transmission mount (hydraulic mount).
=> Tightening torque: 33 Nm (24.5 ftlb.)
4. Secure engine carrier.
4.1. Tighten four M10 collar nuts.
=> Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Remove the rear axle cross member.
-> 420619 Remove and install rear axle cross member 420619 Removing and installing rear-axle cross member.
2. Fill in coolant and bleed the system.
-> 193817 Draining and filling coolant Service and Repair.
3. Fit coolant closure cap in the service tray.
