Camshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
DIAGNOSIS OF CAMSHAFT CONTROLThe diagnosis of camshaft control checks the camshaft angle.
The diagnostic function is only activated if:
- the engine speed lies in a defined range,
- the engine oil temperature lies between its threshold's,
- the fault flag of the power stage of the camshaft control is not set, and
- the adaptation between camshaft and crankshaft has been performed.
If the actual camshaft angle differs for a certain time to the desired camshaft position, a camshaft positioning (plausibility) fault will be stored.

Diagnostic of Camshaft Position Sensor
The purpose of this function is to control the signal change of the camshaft position sensor.
If the signal during a fixed number of engine revolutions continuously is high or low a max or min fault is detected.
If there is no regular alternating of the signal (change of high and low with revolution of the camshaft) for a fixed cycle, a plausibility failure is detected.
