Preliminary work

1. Jack and raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.

2. Remove right rear wheel.

3. Remove underbody panelling.

4. Remove right drive shaft.

Removing short halfshaft flange

1. Remove short drive shaft flange.

Tap out short drive shaft flange using a striker VW 771/1.

Installing short halfshaft flange

Information

Protect drive shafts against mechanical damage (e.g. with a rubber hose that has been cut open).

1. Install short drive shaft flange.





Installing short drive shaft flange

1.1. Check halfshaft flange for burrs and sharp edges on the transmission end of the shaft -arrow- and deburr if necessary.
1.2. Fit short drive shaft flange -1- and drive into place by tapping lightly with a hammer (rubber hammer).

Subsequent work

1. Install right drive shaft.

2. Check transmission oil level in the final drive and top up if necessary.

3. Install underbody panelling.

4. Install right rear wheel.
