Preliminary work
1. Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points. -> 400000 Lifting the vehicle

Removing halfshaft flange
Information
Protect drive shafts against mechanical damage (e.g. with a rubber hose which has been cut open).
1. Remove left drive shaft on transmission side. To do this, unscrew the six Allen screws joining each drive shaft and transmission flange. Counter at the wheel or activate the parking brake to avoid simultaneous turning.

2. Unscrew fastening screws for mounting saddle.

3. Carefully pull halfshaft flange out of transmission.
Installing halfshaft flange
1. Replace square sealing ring in mounting saddle.
2. Check halfshaft flange for burrs and sharp edges on the transmission end of the shaft and deburr if necessary.

Information
To avoid damaging the sealing ring in the transmission, the halfshaft flange must be guided carefully into position by hand.
3. Carefully insert halfshaft flange into the transmission.
4. Screw in fastening screws for mounting saddle.
5. Fit left drive shaft on transmission side. To do this, screw in the six Allen screws joining each drive shaft and transmission flange and tighten screws. Counter at the wheel or activate the parking brake to avoid simultaneous turning.

1. Top up oil for final drive. -> 399055 Replacing oil for final drive - "Topping up" Service and Repair
2. Fit support plate. -> 421419 Removing and installing support plate - section on "Installing" 42141900 Removing and installing support plate
3. Lower the vehicle.
