Front Door Window Regulator: Service and Repair


WM 573019 Removing and installing door sub-frame

Technical values





Preliminary work

1. Disconnect electric lead for door. -> 973219 Removing and installing wiring harness for door - section on "Removing" 97321900 Removing and installing wire harness for door
2. Remove door trim panel. -> 705919 Removing and installing door trim panel - section on "removing" 705919 Removing and installing door panel
3. Remove power window motor. -> 645219 Removing and installing front power windows - section on "Removing" 645219 Removing and installing front power windows
4. Remove head airbag. -> 696619 Removing and installing head airbag unit - section on "Removing" 69661900 Removing and installing head airbag unit

Information

- Adhesive tape protects the door from paint damage when removing the door unit carrier.

1. Cover door in marked area with adhesive tape.

1. Disconnect the plug connection of the mirror housing -3-.

Information

- A second person is required for removing the door unit carrier to avoid damage.

1. Press rubber sleeve for electric line -1- and bowden cable -2- inwards.

2. Release the power window regulator -1- from the door sub-frame -2- at the retaining clip -arrows A- and press it in -arrow B-.

3. Release retaining clip -1- on bowden cable for power windows -arrows-.

4. Unscrew fastening screws -2- on the door sub-frame -1-.

5. Press the rubber sleeve on the wire harness inwards and pull the wire harness out through the door aperture.

6. Pull the bowden cable -2- out of the sub-frame -1-.

Information

- A second person is required for removing the door unit carrier to avoid damage.

1. Unlock the electrical plug connection for the microswitch -1- by pressing the locking tab -arrow A- and remove -arrow B-.

- A second person is required for removing the door unit carrier to avoid damage.

1. Unlock the electrical plug connection for the door lock -1- by pressing the locking tab -arrow A- and remove -arrow B-.

Information

- A second person is required for removing the door unit carrier to avoid damage.

1. Lock electrical plug connection for door lock -1- until the plug audibly engages.

Securing door sub-frame

Information

- A second person is required for removing the door unit carrier to avoid damage.

1. Slide bowden cable -2- through the sub-frame -1-.

Information

- Make sure that the wiring harness is not twisted through the door opening when fitted.

2. Slide the wire harness through the door aperture from inside and press the rubber sleeve on the wire harness into the door aperture from inside.

3. Use assembly string -1- to clip a new retaining clip on the bowden cable for power windows -2- and pull the assembly string through the door sub-frame -3- ( -arrow- ) until the retaining clip engages securely.

4. Cut off the assembly string with side cutters.
5. Install rubber sleeve for electric line -1- and bowden cable -2- in the sub-frame until it engages securely all the way around.

6. Tighten fastening screws -2- on the door sub-frame -1-. => Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

7. Press in power window regulator -1- on the door sub-frame -2 - ( -arrow- ) until the retaining clip engages securely.

1. Connect the plug connection of the mirror housing -3-.

1. Remove adhesive tape, clean marked area if necessary.





Remove adhesive tape.

Subsequent work

1. Install head airbag. -> 696619 Removing and installing head airbag unit - section on "Installing" 69661900 Removing and installing head airbag unit
2. Install power window motor. -> 645219 Removing and installing front power windows - section on "Installing" 645219 Removing and installing front power windows
3. Install door trim panel. -> 705919 Removing and installing door trim panel - section on "installing" 705919 Removing and installing door panel
4. Lock electric lead for door. -> 973219 Removing and installing wiring harness for door - section on "Installing" 97321900 Removing and installing wire harness for door
