Removing actuating cylinder for rear lid

Installation position of actuating cylinder for rear lid

CAUTION

Risk of damage if actuating cylinder is not handled properly.

- Risk of hydraulic system malfunction and damage.

-> Do not press the actuating cylinder in or pull it out manually (e.g. by opening or closing the rear lid manually) when the hydraulic unit is removed.
-> To remove the actuating cylinder, it must be in idle state, i.e. rear lid open.
-> Ensure that plug-in couplings are de-pressurised before disconnecting them.
-> Do not short-circuit plug-in couplings.
-> Protect plug-in couplings from dirt and soiling.

1. Insert a plastic wedge between the body and left hinge cover and carefully unclip the hinge cover -arrow- and remove it.

Removing left hinge cover

CAUTION

Risk of damaging the oil pressure lines.

- Leaks and malfunction in the hydraulic system.

-> Do not bend, trap or crush oil pressure lines during removal.

2. Fold oil pressure lines -1- over close to the plug-in couplings -2- and wrap them with adhesive tape -3-.

Wrapping adhesive tape around oil pressure lines

3. Loosen Velcro fastener -1- at the top -arrow A- and unclip oil pressure lines -2- from the bottom up to remove them from the holders -3- ( -arrows B- ).

Loosening oil pressure lines

4. Press rubber sleeve -1- out with your hand in -direction of arrow A- and pull oil pressure lines -2- out of the roof frame at the rear -arrow B-.

Pulling out oil pressure lines

5. Loosen actuating cylinder at the lid hinge side.

Loosening actuating cylinder at the lid hinge side

5.1. Insert a screwdriver through the opening on the rear lid hinge and push it in between the actuating cylinder -1- and safety clip -2- ( -arrow A- ).
5.2. Loosen the safety clip -2- by turning the screwdriver -arrow-. The safety clip remains on the actuating cylinder.
5.3. Pull actuating cylinder -1- off the ball head -arrow B-.
6. Loosen actuating cylinder at the body side.

Loosening actuating cylinder at the body side

6.1. Insert the pliers Nr.70 between the actuating cylinder -1- and safety clip -2- ( -arrow A- ).
6.2. Loosen the safety clip -2- by turning the pliers -arrow-. The safety clip remains on the actuating cylinder.
6.3. Pull actuating cylinder -1- off the ball head -arrow B-.
7. Slide actuating cylinder -1- back -arrow A- and remove it by pulling it forwards out of the roof frame -arrow B-.

Installing actuating cylinder for rear lid

Installation position of actuating cylinder for rear lid

CAUTION

Risk of damaging the oil pressure lines.

- Leaks and malfunction in the hydraulic system.

-> Do not bend, trap or crush oil pressure lines during installation.
-> Pay special attention when routing the oil pressure lines in the supports, noting the red and blue coloured rings.
-> Oil pressure lines must not cross.

1. Guide oil pressure lines -1- through the opening on the rear roof frame -arrow A- and pull them through in a downward direction -arrow B-.

Routing oil pressure lines

2. First, guide actuating cylinder -1- back into the roof frame -arrow A- and then guide it forward -arrow B-.

Installing actuating cylinder

3. Fit actuating cylinder -1- onto the two ball heads and press it in -arrows- until the actuating cylinder -1- locks with an audible click.

Securing actuating cylinder

4. Check that the safety clip -2- at the front and rear has engaged correctly. Repeat the procedure if necessary.

CAUTION

Risk of water leak if rubber sleeve is not fitted correctly.

- Material damage.

-> Fit rubber sleeve with the marking TOP facing upwards.
-> Check that the rubber sleeve is inserted fully.

5. Press rubber sleeve -1- with the marking TOP facing upwards into the opening on the roof frame with your hand -arrow- until the rubber sleeve -1- is fully engaged.

Pressing in rubber sleeve

Information

Always fit the red oil pressure line in direction of travel going backwards; do not cross oil pressure lines.

The coloured rings must always be perfectly in line with the holder.

6. Secure oil pressure lines.

Securing oil pressure lines

6.1. Position oil pressure lines -2- flush with the colour marking on the first holder -3- and clip them into the holder -arrows A- while paying special attention to the red and blue coloured rings.
6.2. Secure oil pressure lines -2- at the Velcro fastener -1- ( -arrow B- ).
7. Remove adhesive tape -3- from around the plug-in couplings -2- on the oil pressure line -1-.

Removing adhesive tape

8. Clip in left hinge cover -arrow-.
