Supporting the engine on the body
WARNING
Danger of injury from falling loads.
- Drive line components (engine, transmission, etc.) can fall down.
-> Before starting work, check the body for structural damage (accident, corrosion, etc.). The load capacity of the wing mounting points must not be restricted.
-> Do not apply excessive force (e.g. a high screw torque) to supported units.
-> Units must not be supported on the body over an extended period of time.
DANGER
Danger of injury from incorrect use of tools and from falling loads.
- Danger of crushing from heavy loads.
-> When working on the engine suspension, the engine must be appropriately secured against falling or lowering.
-> Never use defective lifting equipment (bent or damaged tools must not be used or repaired. Always replace these tools). Check tools for signs of damage before use.
-> Only use lifting equipment tested and approved by Porsche. Home-made and auxiliary constructions result in improper use and are dangerous.
-> Improper use can damage the transport eyebolt, which must then be replaced. Extreme cases of improper use can break the transport eyebolt.
-> Tools and lifting equipment must always be used properly. Improper use or dangerous home-made constructions can break tools and result in falling loads.
-> Wear protective gloves.
CAUTION
Danger of fire from severed fuel lines.
- A transport eyebolt fitted on the engine can sever the fuel line at the plenum panel in the event of a frontal crash. Fuel leaks out as a result.
-> The rear transport eyebolt must not be fitted when the engine is installed because the fuel line at the plenum panel would be severed in the event of a frontal crash.
-> Remove the rear transport eyebolt when installing the engine.
-> The rear transport eyebolt is a special tool and is part of the workshop equipment.
-> The rear transport eyebolt is painted red as a warning.

- The engine must be supported on the body for some repair work on the front axle and engine bearings.
Installation position of transport eyebolt
1. Remove side engine cover at the rear at the plenum panel. => 700219 Removing and installing front cover (engine compartment)
2. Move bonnet into service position => 553119 Removing and installing front gas spring.
3. Fit rear red transport eyebolt 9700/2 on engine. To do this, the worker must lie on the engine with a blanket and use a workshop lamp and mirror. Proceed in the same way as for => 1001IN Lifting the V6 3.6-litre DFI engine with a workshop crane.
4. Safety device 10-222 A must be extended using the adapter 9591/2 spacers as an aid. Position the safety device on the inside of the wing, near the plenum panel, and align it. Then tighten the two winged nuts. => Spacers and safety device

5. Suspending device 3033 must be engaged in one hook => Engine suspending device.

Information
- When assembling the suspending device, make sure that adjacent components are not scratched or damaged.
6. Engage the rear hook of the rear left engine suspending device onto the engine in the red transport eyebolt 9700/2 , => Rear suspension.

7. Engage front right transport hook onto engine carrier eyebolt.
8. Adjust the engine mount at the spindles => Adjusting the suspension and set it as horizontal as possible => View shows supported engine. Tension the engine slightly and make sure that the force is distributed uniformly over both spindles. Do not load the spindles at the side, and position them until they are as vertical as possible. Assemble as shown in the figures. => View shows supported engine

9. After the work is complete, make sure to remove the rear red transport eyebolt 9700/2. Proceed in the same way as for => 1001IN Lifting the V6 3.6-litre DFI engine with a workshop crane.
