Technical values
Preliminary work
1. Remove C-pillar trim fully. -> 706819 Removing and installing C-pillar trim panel - section on "Removing" 706819 Removing and installing C-pillar trim

Removing rear lid hinge
Installation position of rear lid hinge
1. Lower the rear roofliner.
2. Remove rear lid.
Information
- Remove wire harness for tailgate from the point at which the roof joins the rear lid only.
2.1. Detach wire harness for tailgate. -> 972719 Removing and installing wire harness for tailgate - section on "Removing" 972719 Removing and installing wiring harness for rear panel flap
CAUTION
Incorrect handling of gas-filled shock absorbers
- Gas-filled shock absorbers can burst
- Risk of eye injuries
- Risk of bruising
-> Gas-filled shock absorbers must be in idle state before removal.
-> Open the lid.
-> Secure the lid to prevent it from closing accidentally following removal of the gas-filled shock absorbers.
-> Do not use force to open the gas-filled shock absorbers because of their high internal pressure.
2.2. Detach pneumatic spring at the top on both sides of the vehicle (another person is required to prevent the rear lid from closing accidentally). -> 559319 Removing and installing rear gas spring - section on "Detaching" Service and Repair
2.3. Unscrew fastening screws -1- for rear lid and remove the lid.

3. Mark installation position of hinge -1- for rear lid -2-.

4. Unscrew fastening nuts -2-.

5. Pull rear lid hinge up and remove it.
Installing rear lid hinge
1. Fit lid hinge -1- and align it according to the marking -2-.
Positioning hinge
2. Screw in fastening nuts -2- => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).

3. Remove marking.
4. Place lid in installation position (another person is required to prevent the rear lid from closing accidentally).
5. Screw in fastening screws for rear lid => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.) -1-.

CAUTION

Subsequent work
1. Adjust the rear lid. -> 559015 Adjusting rear lid - section on "Adjusting" Adjustments
2. Install upper part of B-pillar trim. -> 706719 Removing and installing B-pillar trim panel - section on "Installing" 70671901 Removing and installing upper part of B-pillar trim panel
3. Install C-pillar trim fully. -> 706819 Removing and installing C-pillar trim panel - section on "Installing" 706819 Removing and installing C-pillar trim
