Symptom

It is possible that the "Isofix" child-seat lock for the passenger's side (I-no. 899) is fitted on the driver's seat.

Cause, date of introduction and remedial action

Cause

The "Isofix" child-seat lock for the passenger's side may be fitted on the driver's seat due to a production error.

Date of introduction

The "Isofix" child-seat lock is fitted correctly on the passenger's seat from 22.01.2010 onwards.

Remedial action

Move the Isofix child-seat lock from the driver's seat to the passenger's seat.

Tools and materials

Torque wrench Nr.90 with change-over ratchet
(10 - 130 Nm/7.5 - 96 ftlb.), (0 - 30 Nm/0 - 22 ftlb.)

1. Remove the driver's seat and passenger's seat, see -> 720119 Removing and installing front seat 720119 Removing and Installing Front Seat.
2. Remove child-seat lock from the driver's seat:
2.1. Remove inner and outer backrest cover:
2.1.1. Unscrew fastening screw ( -item 1- ) at the side of the cover ( -item 2- ).

2.1.2. Unscrew fastening screw ( -item 1- ) at the bottom of the cover ( -item 2- ).

Information

- The retaining clips will be damaged irreparably during removal.

- Always use new retaining clips during installation.

2.1.3. Remove the cover ( -item 1- ) together with the retaining clip ( -item 2- ).

2.2. Disengage the two restraining straps on the rear of the seat at the bottom ( -arrows- ).

2.3. Remove the bar:

Information

Do not loosen safety screw ( -item B- )!

2.3.1. Unscrew screws and nuts ( -item A- ) on both sides of the transverse plate connection.
2.3.2. Unscrew the stop segment on the right side ( -item A4- ) with the welded screw.
Remove M5 nut (low type, -item A6- ) and plastic washer ( -item A5- ).

2.3.3. Unscrew the M5 x 16 screws ( -item A2- ) with the self-locking nuts ( -item A3- ) on both sides.

2.3.4. Remove the bar ( -item A1- ) from behind.
2.4. Re-install inner and outer backrest cover on the driver's seat:

Information

- The retaining clips will be damaged irreparably during removal.

- Always use new retaining clips during installation.

2.4.1. Fit and engage the cover ( -item 1- ) together with the retaining clip ( -item 2- ).

2.4.2. Fit the fastening screw ( -item 1- ) at the bottom and side of the cover ( -item 2- ).

2.4.3. Fit a new ring clip ( -item 1- ).

2.5. Engage the two restraining straps on the rear of the seat at the bottom ( -arrows- ).

3. Install child-seat lock on the passenger's seat:

WARNING

Incorrect handling of safety bolts

- Danger of injury
- Loss of torque

-> Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.
-> Observe specified tightening torques.
-> Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.

3.1. Remove inner and outer backrest cover and disengage the two restraining straps at the bottom, see Steps 2.1 and 2.2.
3.2. Install the bar on the passenger's seat:

Do not loosen safety screw ( -item B- )!

3.2.1. Unscrew screws and nuts ( -item A- ) on both sides of the transverse plate connection.
3.2.2. Fit the bar ( -item A1- ) from behind and secure with an M5 x 16 screw ( -item A2- ) and self-locking nuts ( -item A3- ) on both sides. => Tightening torque: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)+/-0.5 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.)

Always fit the stop segment on the right side of the seat!

Check the position of the stop segment in the ring gear:
One tooth (the lowest) must always be left free.

3.2.3. Insert the stop segment ( -item A4- ) into the teeth of the backrest angle adjustment unit from the outside using pointed-nose pliers.
3.2.4. Fit plastic washer ( -item A5- ) and M5 nut (low type, -item A6- ) and tighten hand-tight using an open-ended wrench.
3.2.5. Screw in the M5 x 16 screws ( -item A2- ) with the self-locking nuts ( -item A3- ) on both sides.
3.3. Re-install inner and outer backrest cover on the passenger's seat and engage the restraining straps, see Steps 2.4 and 2.5.
4. Re-install the driver's seat and passenger's seat, see -> 720119 Removing and installing front seat 720119 Removing and Installing Front Seat.
