WM 247025 Eliminating symptoms - Engine: Re-programming DME control unit (Vehicle driveability and engine noise/SY1810)

Tools

Technical values

General information

Symptom

Poor vehicle driveability and/or noises from engine.

Cause, date of introduction and remedial action

Cause

Low-quality fuel can cause increased combustion noise (rattling noises).

If the vehicle is filled alternately with fuel of different quality (high quality, low quality), this can briefly cause increased combustion noise. In order to respond to the changed conditions, the DME control unit re-adapts each time a different fuel quality is used.

Date of introduction/validity

Information

The remedial action described below only applies to model year A vehicles (2010) in the following markets:

- China (C33),

- Vietnam (C14),

- Singapore (C15) and

- Hong Kong (17).

For countries outside of the markets listed here, please contact the technical Porsche Hotline of the relevant Market Support before taking further action.

Different measures have been used in production as of model year B.

Remedial action

If a complaint is received in relation to a model year A vehicle, select M-number ‘738 Fuel region China' and re-program the DME control unit using the PIWIS Tester with test software version 7.200 (or higher) installed.

Information

Combustion noise is reduced in most cases by the automatic adaptation of the DME control unit while driving.
For successful adaptation, the vehicle must be driven constantly for a few seconds in the driving state (engine speed, gear selection, load range, etc.) in which increased combustion noise occurs.

=> Please also inform the customer about this issue:

Filling the vehicle with fuel of different quality requires an "adaptation phase" for the engine control system. As a result, increased combustion noise can occur briefly in certain driving states.

If the vehicle is filled alternately with fuel of different quality (high quality, low quality), this can briefly cause increased combustion noise. In order to respond to the changed conditions, the DME control unit re-adapts each time a different fuel quality is used.

Tools and materials

- PIWIS Tester II 9818 with test software version 7.200 (or higher) installed

- Battery charger HFL 65 WE 1353 (charging current of at least 40 A).
