NOTICE

Voltage drop

- Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
- Risk of damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Coding in the control unit is aborted
- Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

-> Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
-> Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
-> Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least => Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle battery.

Information

The PIWIS Tester II 9818 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818.

1. Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on ignition.
2. Select the vehicle type and start the PIDT.
3. When the overview is displayed, start the control unit search by pressing F12.
4. Once the control unit search is complete, press F7.
5. Select Maintenance of vehicle order and press F12.
6. Compare the displayed values with the vehicle values and press F8 to save, then press F12.

WARNING

Incorrect handling of airbag units

- Triggering of airbag unit
- System faults can occur

-> Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
-> A voltage supply (e.g. battery charger) must not be connected to the external power supply/jump-lead starting terminals.
-> Disconnect the battery and insulate the ground strap so that all contact with a ground carrier is avoided.
-> Wait 1 minute after disconnecting the battery.
-> Only pull off connector on the triggering unit after the waiting time has elapsed.
-> Make sure that no foreign objects are located in front of the airbag unit during installation.
-> Replace damaged parts during removal.
-> Always position the airbag unit in such a way that the airbag opening is facing upwards.
-> If removed for an extended period, the airbag unit must be stored in a safe place.
-> Airbag units must not come into contact with grease, oil, detergents, liquids, or similar substances.
-> Do not expose airbag units to temperatures above 90°.
-> Do not remove the short-circuit spring on the plug-in contacts.
-> Ignition and preparations may only be carried out by skilled staff, supervised by a second responsible person.
-> Before disposal, the airbag unit must be rendered harmless by electrical ignition performed in accordance with all precautionary measures, thereby preventing it from being used incorrectly.

7. Switch off ignition, remove the battery charger from the power feed and disconnect the battery.

9. Select Maintenance of vehicle order and press F12.
10. Press F8 to write the values that were read out.
11. Select the Airbag control unit in the overview and press F12.
12. Select Maintenance/repairs and Lock and press F12.
13. Read the warnings on the Tester.
14. Press F8 to start programming and follow the instructions on the Tester.
15. Read out the fault memory and erase it if necessary.
16. Switch the ignition off and then on again. The airbag warning light in the instrument cluster comes on and must go off again after a few seconds.
