Preliminary work

2. Remove heating/fresh-air unit.

4. Remove rear centre console.

5. Remove airbag triggering unit.

Loosening main wire harness under dashboard
NOTICE
Incorrect handling of main wire harness
- Risk of damage to lines
-> The main wire harness contains all airbag lines, antenna lines and optical waveguides.
-> The main wire harness must not be separated and is always replaced as a complete wire harness when carrying out extensive repairs.
-> If individual lines are damaged, shut off these lines and install new lines. Lay the new lines along the main wire harness and secure them to the main wire harness.
Installation position of main wire harness under dashboard
1. Loosen wire harness for engine compartment on the right.

1.1. Loosen rubber sleeve -1- for wire harness in engine compartment on the right.
1.2. 1.3. Make sure that all brackets are unclipped and released.
1.4. Pull wire harness from the engine compartment on the right through the bulkhead.
2. Release and unplug electric plug connection for loudspeaker amplifier. -> 914419 Removing and installing loudspeaker amplifier - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
3. Remove electric plug connection for door electrics.
Removing connector for door electrics
3.1. Open front door of the vehicle and detach rubber protection on wiring arrangement for door electrics from the A-pillar.
3.2. Release mounting housing -1- ( -arrow A- ) and remove it from the A-pillar.
3.3. Release electric plug connection for door electrics -arrow B- and disconnect it -arrow C-.
3.4. Remove supply line for door electrics from the A-pillar.
4. Loosen fuse box on passenger's side and remove it from the bracket.-> 978409 Loosening and securing fuse box - section on "Loosening" 978409 Loosening and securing fuse box
5. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for air vent lighting at the A-pillar.
6. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for the passenger's knee airbag. -> 697919 Removing and installing knee airbag on passenger's side - section on "Removing" 697919 Removing and installing passenger's knee airbag
7. Loosen wire harness for engine compartment in the centre to the plenum panel.

7.1. 7.2. Make sure that all brackets are unclipped and released.
7.3. Pull wire harness (protected by a rubber boot) -1- from the engine compartment in the centre at the plenum panel through the bulkhead -arrow-.
8. Loosen cable duct and main wire harness under the dashboard from the dashboard support.
9. Loosen fastening nut for ground point from the dashboard support and remove supply line. -> 516819 Removing and installing dashboard support - section on "Removing" 516819 Removing and Installing Dashboard Support
10. Disconnect wire harness from the centre console.
Centre console wire harness
10.1. Release and unplug electric plug connection for rear backrest at the left and right -1-.
10.2. Release and unplug electric plug connection for rear seat at the left and right -2-.
10.3. Release and unplug electric plug connection for the rear air-conditioning system regulator -3-.
10.4. Release and unplug electric plug connection for the rear centre console wire harness -4-.
10.5. Release and unplug electric plug connection for the airbag control unit -5-.
10.6. Release and unplug electric plug connection for the switch console in the front centre console -6-.
10.7. Loosen fastening nut for ground point -7- and remove supply line.
10.8. Unclip all electric supply lines.
11. Remove electric plug connection for door electrics.
Removing connector for door electrics
11.1. Open front door of the vehicle and detach rubber protection on wiring arrangement for door electrics from the A-pillar.
11.2. Release mounting housing -1- ( -arrow A- ) and remove it from the A-pillar.
11.3. Release electric plug connection for door electrics -arrow B- and disconnect it -arrow C-.
11.4. Remove supply line for door electrics from the A-pillar.

13. Release and unplug electric plug connection for air vent lighting at the A-pillar.
14. Release and unplug electric plug connection for the driver's knee airbag. -> 697819 Removing and installing knee airbag on driver's side - section on "Removing" 697819 Removing and installing driver's knee airbag
15. Unclip supply line for antenna at the A-pillar and windscreen frame. -> 914719 Removing and installing radio antenna - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
16. Loosen wire harness for engine compartment on the left.

16.1. Loosen rubber sleeve -1- for wire harness in engine compartment on the left.
16.2. Make sure that all electric plug connections on the wire harness in the engine compartment on the left are released and unplugged. -> 971319 Removing and installing wire harness in engine compartment - section on "Removing"
16.3. Make sure that all brackets are unclipped and released.
16.4. Pull wire harness from the engine compartment on the left through the bulkhead.
Securing main wire harness under dashboard
1. Installation is performed in reverse order.
2. First lay the main wire harness loosely under the dashboard and in the centre console, ensuring that it is positioned correctly.
3. Pull wire harnesses for the engine compartment through the relevant cut-outs.
4. Secure cable ducts.
5. Secure main wire harness under the dashboard and in the centre console as well as lines coming from it.
6. Plug in control units and electric plug connections until they engage securely.
7. Connect ground points on the dashboard support.

8. Connect ground points.
9. Secure antenna.
Subsequent work
1. Install heating/fresh air unit.
