Preliminary work

Preliminary work for DME control unit

1. If a new control unit has to be installed, the values/coding must be read out using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818 prior to removing the old DME control unit.
2. Lift up cowl panel cover.
3. Remove rubber beading in front of the cross panel.
4. Unscrew the two fastening screws on the cross panel section at the right and lift up the cross panel section.

Removing DME control unit

NOTE:
- Voltage peaks
- Risk of damage to load or to the control unit
- Remove the ignition key and switch off load before disconnecting or removing load.












1. Unscrew the two fastening screws -1-.
2. Loosen the fastening nut -2-.
3. Pull the holder forward in direction of travel and lift it up and out.







4. Release the latch on both connectors -1, 2- ( -a- ) and pull the two connectors off the DME control unit.







5. Unscrew the six fastening screws -3- on the holder and remove the holder from the DME control unit.

Installing DME control unit







1. Position the holder on the DME control unit and secure it with the fastening screws -3-.







2. Plug in both connectors -1, 2- on the DME control unit and close the latch -a-.
3. Secure DME control unit and holder.







3.1. Position the DME control unit and holder and secure with the fastening nut -2- and the two fastening screws -1-. -> Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.) -> Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

Subsequent work on DME control unit

1. If the control unit was replaced, the new control unit must be adapted to suit the vehicle using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818.
2. Position the cross panel at the right and secure the section with the two fastening screws.
3. Install cowl panel cover.
