Preliminary work

Preliminary work for height adjustment control unit

1. If a new control unit has to be installed, the values and codings must be read out using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818 prior to removing the "old" height adjustment control unit. -> 480055 Replacing height adjustment control unit.
2. Remove steering column. -> 481519 Removing and installing steering column - section on "Removing" 481519 Removing and installing steering column.

NOTICE

Voltage peaks

- Risk of damage to load or to the control unit

-> Remove the ignition key and switch off load before disconnecting or removing load.





Installation position

1. Release and disconnect the electric plug connection -a-.





Removing control unit

2. Unscrew fastening screw -1-.
3. Lift the height adjustment control unit and pull it out of the steering column.

Installing height adjustment control unit

1. Place height adjustment control unit in steering column.
2. Secure height adjustment control unit using the fastening screw -1-. => Tightening torque: 3.6 Nm (2.5 ftlb.)+/-0.5 Nm (+/-0.5 ftlb.)





Installing control unit

3. Insert electric connector at the control unit until it engages securely.

Subsequent work

Subsequent work for height adjustment control unit

1. Install steering column. -> 481519 Removing and installing steering column - section on "Installing" 481519 Removing and installing steering column.
2. If the control unit was replaced, the control unit must be adapted to the vehicle using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818. -> 480055 Replacing height adjustment control unit.
