Preliminary work

Preliminary work for PASM control unit

1. If a new control unit has to be installed, the values/coding must be read out using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818 prior to removing the "old" PASM control unit. -> 431655 Replacing PASM control unit 431655 Replacing PASM control unit.
2. Detach part of the side trim panel for the rear luggage compartment at the left and fold it forward. -> 700319 Removing and installing side trim panel for rear luggage compartment - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
3. Pull control unit for rear-differential lock out of the holder and set it aside. -> 397519 Removing and installing control unit for rear-differential lock - section on "Removing" 397519 Removing and Installing Control Unit For Rear-Differential Lock.

- Risk of damage to load or to the control unit

-> Remove the ignition key and switch off load before disconnecting or removing load.

Information

An electronics module is screwed to the PASM control unit on vehicles with air suspension.

This additional electronics module remains fitted to the control unit even when the control unit is replaced.

The electronics module -1- has two additional connectors -2- , which must be unplugged during removal and plugged in again during installation.

Installation position

1. Unscrew the three fastening nuts -1- on the control unit holder.

2. Remove control unit holder and turn it around.
3. Release, fold up and remove retaining bar -1-.

4. Release connectors -2- and -3- ( -a- ) and pull them off the control unit.
5. Release the holder at the left and right of the control unit -arrow- and pull the control unit out of the holder.

Installing PASM control unit

1. Insert control unit into the holder and clip it securely to the holder.
2. Fit and clip in retaining bar.
3. Plug in and lock the electric connectors.
4. Position control unit and holder and secure them with the three fastening nuts. => Tightening torque: 9.7 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work for PASM control unit

1. Install control unit for rear-differential lock in the holder. -> 397519 Removing and installing control unit for rear-differential lock - section on "Installing" 397519 Removing and Installing Control Unit For Rear-Differential Lock.
2. Secure side trim panel for rear luggage compartment at the left. -> 700319 Removing and installing side trim panel for rear luggage compartment - section on "Installing" Service and Repair.
3. If the control unit was replaced, the "new" control unit must be adapted to suit the vehicle using the 2nd generation PIWIS Tester 9818. -> 431655 Replacing PASM control unit 431655 Replacing PASM control unit.
