Removing And Installing Wire Harness For Battery Wiring

Group 20 - Fuel supply, control

WARNING:
Toxic substances
- Danger of poisoning or suffocation


- Ventilate the work area well.
- Never ingest or inhale.
- Read specific information on the Hazard Sheet.
- Wear personal protective gear.

WARNING:

- Danger of fire or explosion


- Avoid contact with hot parts or sources of ignition.
- Use suction to remove ignitable vapors.
- Attach warning sign in a clearly visible position.

INFORMATION:
- Absorb any escaping fuel using a suitable binding material or a cloth.
- Cloths which have absorbed fuel must be disposed of according to the applicable national laws.
- The fuel system must be depressurised before starting work on it.
- Only work on the fuel system in well-ventilated rooms.
- Any seals which have been removed must always be replaced.
- Do not use any sealant containing silicone or silicone spray when the injection system is open. Traces of silicone drawn in by the engine are not combusted and damage the oxygen sensors.

Preliminary work

Preliminary work for wire harness from battery to power distributor (HSB)
1. Disconnect the battery.

Preliminary work for wire harness from power distributor (HSB) to B+ connection point in engine compartment

1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Remove rear cardan shaft.
3. Remove rear section of left front wheel-housing trim panel.
4. Remove centre section of luggage compartment trim panel.
5. Remove rear right wheel-housing trim panel.
6. Unscrew fastening screw -1- for tank filler neck -2- at the body.







7. Drain the fuel tank fully (both sides).

NOTE:
Incorrect handling of fuel tank
- Danger of cracking or damaging the fuel tank if handling instructions are not observed.

- Drain the fuel tank fully before lowering it.

8. Remove restraining straps at the middle, left and right of the fuel tank and lower the fuel tank. Leave the fuel tank on the vehicle.
9. Unclip fuel line -1- and fuel vent line -2- on the underbody at the right of the fuel tank.







Removing wire harness from battery to power distributor (HSB)
1. Disconnect B+ line at the cutoff relay.







Removing wire harness from power distributor (HSB) to B+ connection point in engine compartment

INFORMATION:
Due to the large number of fixing clips, fixing clips will only be shown and mentioned symbolically.

The new B+ line to be installed comes fitted with cable clips.

1. Disconnect the B+ line in the power distributor (HSB).
2. Unclip B+ line in the luggage compartment area.
3. Pull B+ line through under the transverse cover.
Unclip transverse cover -2- and lift it up -arrow A-.

Pull B+ line -1- through under the transverse cover.







4. Press in rubber sleeve -1- ( -arrow- ) and pull B+ line out of the luggage compartment from under the vehicle.







5. Unclip B+ line close to the fuel tank.







6. Unclip B+ line in the underbody area.







7. Unclip B+ line close to the front left wheel housing.







8. Disconnect connections at the B+ connection point in the engine compartment.







8.1. Unscrew nuts -1- and remove them -arrow A-.
8.2. Remove connection for generator/starter -2-.
8.3. Remove connection for fan blower -3-.
8.4. Unclip printed circuit board (PCB) -4- and remove it -arrow B-.

9. Unscrew fastening screw for B+ connection point in the engine compartment -1-.







10. Unclip B+ line -arrow A- and remove it -arrow B-.







11. Pull B+ line out of the engine compartment into the wheel housing and set it down.







Installing wire harness from battery to power distributor (HSB)
1. Screw in B+ line on the cutoff relay.







Installing wire harness from power distributor (HSB) to B+ connection point in engine compartment

1. Bring B+ line from the wheel housing into the engine compartment, position it and clip it on.







2. Press B+ line into the bracket for the B+ connection point in the engine compartment -arrow A- until the catch -arrow B- engages with an audible click.







Screw in fastening screw for B+ connection point in the engine compartment -1-.








3. Screw in connections at the B+ connection point in the engine compartment.







3.1. Clip in PCB -4- until it engages securely -arrow A-.
3.2. Fit connection for fan blower -3-.
3.3. Fit connection for generator/starter -2-.
3.4. Screw on nuts -arrow B-.

4. Clip in B+ line close to the left wheel housing.







5. Clip in B+ line in the underbody area.







6. Clip in B+ line close to the fuel tank.







7. Pull B+ line from under the vehicle into the luggage compartment -arrow- and position rubber sleeve -1-.







8. Pull B+ line through under the transverse cover.
Unclip transverse cover -2- and lift it up -arrow A-.

Pull B+ line -1- through under the transverse cover -arrow B-.







9. Clip in B+ line in the luggage compartment area.
10. Screw B+ line into the power distributor (HSB).

Subsequent work

Subsequent work for wire harness from power distributor (HSB) to B+ connection point in engine compartment

1. Clip in fuel line -1- and fuel vent line -2- on the underbody at the right of the fuel tank -arrow-.







2. Lift up the fuel tank and fit restraining straps at the middle, left and right.
3. Screw in fastening screw -1- for tank filler neck -2- at the body.







4. Install rear right wheel-housing trim panel.
5. Install centre section of luggage compartment trim panel.
6. Install rear section of left front wheel-housing trim panel.
7. Install rear cardan shaft.
8. Fill the fuel tank.
9. Connect the battery.

Subsequent work for wire harness from battery to power distributor (HSB)
1. Connect the battery.
