Removing and installing transmission
Preliminary work
Preliminary work for transmission
1. Remove cover for center underbody.
2. Remove cover for front underbody.
3. Remove exhaust system.
4. Remove rear cardan shaft.
5. Remove left catalytic converter.
Removing transmission
1. Loosen right exhaust system holder -2- on the primary catalytic converter. To do this, unscrew the screw -1-.

2. Remove exhaust system holder -2- at the right of the transmission.

3. Disconnect cable plug -arrow- for reverse gear on the transmission.

4. Disconnect cable plug on transmission sensor -arrow- and remove line from the bracket.

5. Remove slave cylinder from the transmission and secure it in the transmission tunnel. The hydraulic line must not be opened.
6. Remove chassis brace.

7. Support transmission with transmission jack and secure with a retaining strap.
8. Unscrew fastening screws -1- on the transmission support.

9. Unscrew fastening screws -1- securing transmission to engine.

10. Remove transmission from the engine and lower it slightly.
11. Remove the shift and selector cables at the top of the transmission.

12. Remove transmission.
Installing transmission
1. Support the transmission on a transmission jack and secure with a retaining strap.
2. Grease the input shaft -arrow- on the transmission.

3. Guide the transmission into the transmission tunnel.
4. Slide rubber sleeve on operating cable through the support and engage the ends of the cable -1- on the transmission.

5. Fit safety clips -2- on the support.

6. Fit transmission with a spacer plate and mount it on the engine by turning the output shaft.

7. Screw in new fastening screws for securing transmission to engine. When doing so, make sure to install the exhaust system holders at the left and right. -> Initial tightening: 38 Nm (28 ftlb.) -> Final tightening: 90 degrees
8. Screw in fastening screws for securing transmission support to body -1-. -> Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)

9. Fit chassis brace.

10. Install slave cylinder.
11. Push on cable plug on sensor. Secure line to holder.

12. Connect cable plug -arrow- for reverse gear on the transmission.

13. Install exhaust system holder -2- at the right of the transmission.

14. Secure right exhaust system holder -2- on the primary catalytic converter. To do this, screw in the screw -1-.

Subsequent work for transmission
1. Install left catalytic converter.
2. Install rear cardan shaft.
3. Install the exhaust system.
4. Adjust the shift and selector cables.
5. Install cover for front underbody.
6. Install cover for center underbody.
