Windshield Washer Reservoir: Service and Repair

Preliminary work

1. Remove front right wheel. -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel - section on "Removing" Removal and Replacement
2. Remove rear part of right front wheel housing liner -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner - section on "Removing" Removal and Replacement
3. Remove plenum panel cover. -> 852219 Plenum panel cover - section on "Removing" 852219 Removing and installing plenum panel cover

Removing reservoir for windscreen washer system

1. Unscrew fastening screw -1- on the filler tube -2- for the reservoir.

2. Pull out filler tube -2- for the reservoir to the engine compartment.
3. Pull hose -1- off the pump -2- and unclip it at the reservoir -A-.

4. Collect emerging fluid in a suitable container.
5. Release and pull off plug connection -1- for pump for windscreen washer system -a-.

6. Release and pull off plug connection -2- on sensor for fluid level indicator -b-.
7. Pull off hose for headlight cleaning system -1- at the connection point in the front apron -2- and unclip it under the wing.

8. Remove clip -1- with the wire harness from the reservoir.

9. Unscrew fastening screw -2- on the reservoir for the windscreen washer system.
10. Pull the reservoir -2- forward -B- until you can reach the pump for the headlight cleaning system.

11. Release plug connection -1- on pump for headlight cleaning system -a- and pull it off -A-.
12. Remove the reservoir -2- ( -B- ).

Installing reservoir for windscreen washer system

1. Connect plug connection -1- for pump for headlight cleaning system -A- until the connector engages securely.

2. Slide the reservoir -2- towards the rear and into the bracket -B-.
3. Screw in fastening screw -1- on the reservoir.

4. Fit the clip -2- with the wire harness onto the reservoir. Use a new clip if necessary.
5. Clip in hose for headlight cleaning system -1- under the wing and secure it to the connection point -2- in the front apron.

6. Connect plug connection -1- for sensor for fluid level indicator until the connector engages securely.

7. Connect plug connection -2- for pump for windscreen washer system until the connector engages securely.
8. Connect hose -1- for the windscreen washer system at the pump -2- and clip it onto the reservoir -A-.

9. Position filler tube -1- for the reservoir.

10. Screw in fastening screw -2-.

Subsequent work

1. Install plenum panel cover. -> 852219 Plenum panel cover - section on "Installing" 852219 Removing and installing plenum panel cover
2. Install rear part of front right wheel housing liner. -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner - section on "Installing" Removal and Replacement
3. Fit front right wheel. -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel - section on "Installing" Removal and Replacement

CAUTION

Filling the wrong fluid into the washer system

- Risk of damaging and blocking the washer system
- Reduced washer/wiper function

-> Only use phosphate-free washer fluid and additional cleaner that is suitable for plastic headlight lenses and will not leave drips.
-> Use anti-freeze at temperatures below + 10°C.

4. Fill in washer fluid.
