Preliminary work

Remove roof joint cover strip at the left and right. -> 663619 Removing and installing roof joint cover strip - section on "Removing"

Installation position of cowl panel cover

1. Loosen cowl panel cover.
1.1. Open cover for sliding roof.
1.2. Press air deflector -2- down.
1.3. Remove rubber sleeves -3- and unscrew tapping screws -4- on the cowl panel cover -1-.

Information

The cowl panel cover will be irreparably damaged during removal and must be replaced.

2. Remove cowl panel cover.
2.1. Lift up cowl panel cover -1- at the left and right with a plastic wedge and release the retaining clips -2- using a screwdriver -Arrow A-.
2.2. Heat the cowl panel cover -1- with a hot-air gun v.a.g 1416.
2.3. Remove cowl panel cover -1- by pulling it upwards -Arrow B-.

Installing cowl panel cover

1. Install cowl panel cover.

Information

Slide the speed nut from the right in direction of travel onto the tab on the windscreen frame. The flat side of the speed nut must be facing towards the rear in direction of travel.

1.1. Check speed nuts -3- and replace them if necessary.
1.2. Remove adhesive residue on the windscreen frame with the film eraser Nr.174 Pos.1 and support Nr.174 Pos.2 and clean the windscreen frame with cleaning agent.
1.3. Pull protective film off the bonding surface of the cowl panel cover -1-.

Information

Check that the rubber seal for the windscreen is not trapped under the cowl panel cover.

1.4. Insert cowl panel cover -1- into the windscreen frame with the three guide pins -Arrow B- while pressing it on over the whole surface with your hand.
1.5. Over-press the cowl panel cover -1- at the outer left and right until the retaining clips -2- engage securely on the windscreen frame.

2. Secure cowl panel cover.
2.1. Press air deflector -2- down.
2.2. Secure cowl panel cover -1- with the tapping screws -4-. => Tightening torque: 1.6 Nm (1.5 ftlb.)
2.3. Fit rubber sleeves -3-.

Install roof joint cover strip at the left and right. -> 663619 Removing and installing roof joint cover strip - section on "Installing"
