Clicking noises in area of mounting unit (drive mechanism).

Causes and remedial action

Clicking noises can occur while driving due to the incorrect adjustment of the mounting unit (drive mechanism).

In the event of a complaint, this problem must be remedied by checking the adjustment of the mounting unit (drive mechanism) and readjusting it.

Tools and materials

Information

- The following assembly fixtures must be made for the adjustment operations at the mounting unit.

1. The following tools and materials are required for making the adjustment devices:
1.1. Sabre saw 00000
1.2. Measuring tape 00000
1.3. Commercially available hardwood block 00000
2. Make adjustment block for left holder.
2.1. Make hardwood adjustment block -1 L- with the corresponding specified dimensions.

3. Make adjustment block for right holder.
3.1. Make hardwood adjusting device -1 R- with the corresponding specified dimensions.

1. Hold the rear roof trim panel -1- underneath at the sides and carefully pull it out of the clips in -direction of arrow-.

1. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
2. Pull top connection seal -1- out of the plastic cover -2- in -direction of arrow-.

3. Unscrew fastening screw -1- on the plastic cover -2-. Lift the plastic cover up slightly and loosen the bead -arrow-.

4. Disengage plastic cover -1- from the metal clip -2- ( -arrow A- ) and detach at the roof frame -3- by pulling it forward -arrow B-.

Installation position

1. Unscrew fastening screws -1- and fold the closing aid, which is engaged in the strut on the body, forwards.

2. Unscrew fastening screws -2- at the left sunroof motor.

3. Pull left sunroof motor -4- from behind the bracket -5- out of the drive pipe.

4. Unscrew fastening screws -1- at the right sunroof motor.

5. Pull right sunroof motor -2- out of the drive pipe bracket.

Adjusting mounting unit (drive mechanism)

Information

The precondition for an accurate adjustment of the mounting unit is that the sunroof cover be completely closed.

Information

- The basic adjustment of the mounting unit (drive mechanism) on the left side is set with a forward travel of 2 mm.

An adjusting device with a corresponding inclination is used for this on the left side.

- On the right side an adjusting device with a 90° angle is used.

1. Position adjustment blocks at the lifting mechanism.

1.1. Position left adjustment block -1 L- between pin -2- and holder -3- ( -arrow A- ).
1.2. Position right adjustment block -1 R- between pin -2- and holder -3- ( -arrow B- ).

Information

Two people are needed to adjust or inspect the holders!

2. Adjust mounting unit.
2.1. Insert a screwdriver through the opening in the casing -2- and push the lower drive shaft -3- so -arrow A- that the right holder -4- is positioned against the adjustment block -1 R- , -arrow B-.

2.2. Insert a screwdriver through the opening in the casing -2- and push the upper drive shaft -3- so -arrow A- that the left holder -4- is positioned against the adjustment block -1 L- , -arrow B-

3. Guide left sunroof motor -4- behind the bracket -5- from below and slide the gear wheel for the motor between the two drive shafts so that the drive shafts cannot move.

4. Secure left sunroof motor using the two fastening screws -2-. => Tightening torque: 5.5 Nm (4.0 ftlb.)

5. Fold the closing aid holder upwards in the direction of the arrow. Make sure that the strut -inset- for the closing aid is engaged properly. Tighten fastening screws -1-. => Tightening torque: 9.5 Nm (7.0 ftlb.)

6. Slide the gear wheel of the right sunroof motor -2- between the drive shafts and press it onto the drive pipe.

7. Secure sunroof motor using the two fastening screws -1-.
=> Tightening torque: 5.5 Nm (4.0 ftlb.)

8. Remove adjustment blocks -1 L, 1 R- at the lifting mechanism -arrows-.

9. Close rear window cover and check adjustment. => 648615 Adjusting rear window cover - section on "Adjusting"
10. Switch on ignition and open and close sunroof cover completely.
Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
11. Check adjustment again at the mounting unit using the adjustment blocks and adjust if necessary.

Installing front fabric lining

1. Pull the connection seal of the fabric lining -1- into the plastic cover -2- ( -arrow- ) until the plastic cover -2- is exposed by only -dimension X= 60 mm-.

2. Guide plastic cover -1- at the front into the roof assembly -2- ( -arrow A- ) and push in the metal clip -3- ( -arrow B- ).

3. Secure plastic cover -2- at the rear with the fastening screw.
4. Pull the fabric lining -1- forwards -arrow A- until the plastic cover -2 - is covered. Lift the plastic cover up slightly and fold over the bead -arrow B-.

1. Position rear roof trim panel -1- and press it on until the pins lock into the clips with an audible click.
