These symptom-based repair instructions replace the instructions dated 16.06.2011.

Changes/additions compared to the previous instructions:

General information

Symptom

Contact between the side bolster and centre console can cause creaking noises.

Cause, date of introduction and remedial action

Cause

The side bolster is touching the centre console and can cause creaking noises due to relative movements.

Date of introduction

An anti-friction coating has already been applied to the side bolsters on vehicles with sports bucket seats produced from 01.02.2011 onwards.

Remedial action

In the event of a complaint, coat the surfaces on the side bolsters that make contact with the centre console with anti-friction coating (Berucoat AK978, Part No. 999.917.822.40).

Tools and materials

999.917.822.40 => Anti-friction coating (Berucoat AK978)

- Masking tape
- Clean, lint-free cloth

Reworking front seats

1. Remove front seats, -> 720119 Removing and installing front seat, section on 'Removing'.

For sports bucket seats (I-no. XSA/XSB - XSE/XSF - XSS/XSR), -> 720119 Removing and installing bucket seat, section on 'Removing'.
2. Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with clean water and clean the affected area of the side bolster.
3. Only for sports bucket seat:

Mask the side bolster with masking tape ( -Pos. 1- ) so that only the work area ( -Schraffur- ), x => Length: 150 mm is exposed.

Information

The seams must not be coated with anti-friction coating.

- Mask the seams in the work area with masking tape.

4. Shake the bottle containing the anti-friction coating (Berucoat AK978) for at least 30 seconds.
5. Use the sponge (top of the bottle) to apply a thin, even layer of anti-friction coating on the contact surfaces of the side bolster (for sports bucket seat , see -Schraffur- ).
6. Leave the anti-friction coating to dry for at least 10 minutes.
7. Carefully pull off the masking tape and remove any remaining adhesive.
8. Install front seats, -> 720119 Removing and installing front seat, section on 'Installing'.

For sports bucket seats , -> 720119 Removing and installing bucket seat, section on 'Installing'.
