Preliminary work

1. Remove rear apron.
=> 635519 Removing and installing rear apron.
2. Remove charge air cooler.
=> 214319 Removing and installing charge air cooler.

CAUTION

Hot components

- Risk of burns

-> Let hot components cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.

3. Remove heat protection panel for the catalytic converter.
=> 631019 Removing and installing front bumper.
4. Remove heat shield.
=> 261219 Removing and installing heat shield - Turbo.

CAUTION

Ingress of dirt

- Danger of material damage due to blocked oil bores/oil ducts.

-> Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the engine.
-> Lay removed engine parts on a clean base and make sure to cover them.
-> Use the cover for dust protection when fitting the engine NR.165 on the engine assembly support.

Information

Specifications for wrench sizes (a/f specifications) for screw heads are described as follows:

- Torx screws: (E.) for external Torx, (T.) for internal Torx.

- Hexagon-head bolts (internal and external hexagon): Wrench size (a/f)

1. Remove solenoid hydraulic valve.
1.1. Pull off cable plug -2- on the solenoid hydraulic valve by pressing the spring clamp.
1.2. Unscrew two external Torx screws (E8, M5 x 12) -1-.

2. Pull solenoid hydraulic valve out of the cylinder head.

Information

- The solenoid hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment can be fitted on either cylinder bank.

Installation position:

Information

- Replace O-rings.

- Grease O-rings with a light coating of Kluber Syntheso Glep (Part No.: 000.043.204.68).

1. Replace O-ring -2- and grease with Kluber Syntheso Glep (Part No. 000.043.204.68).

2. Fit solenoid hydraulic valve with new O-ring at the correct position in the cylinder head.
3. Fit two external Torx screws (E8, M5 x 12) and tighten to the prescribed tightening torque.
=> Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.)
3.1. Connect cable plug.

Subsequent work

1. Secure the heat shield.
=> 261219 Removing and installing heat shield - Turbo.
2. Install heat protection panel on catalytic converter.
=> 631019 Removing and installing front bumper.
3. Install charge air cooler.
=> 214319 Removing and installing charge air cooler.
4. Install the rear apron.
=> 635519 Removing and installing rear apron.
