Preliminary work

Preliminary work for ELV control unit

1. If the ELV (electronic steering column lock) control unit has to be replaced, the values must be read out using the PIWIS Tester 9718 before removing the control unit. See section entitled Programming ELV control unit.
2. Insert ignition key into the ignition lock. The electronic steering column lock (ELV) must unlock.
3. Disconnect the battery.

Installation position

Information

The ELV control unit is engaged in the steering column and is clamped securely with a fastening screw.

The fastening screw comes with the ELV control unit.

1. Screw the fastening screw -1- as far as it will go into the ELV control unit.

2. Slide the ELV control unit back, disengage it from the steering column and remove it by moving it upwards.

Installing ELV control unit

1. Check the installation position of the plastic guide for the ELV control unit and insert the plastic guide into the opening in the steering column.

2. Position ELV control unit on the steering column and engage it by pressing it forward.

3. Unscrew the fastening screw -1- on the ELV control unit until the fastening screw -1- connects with the steering column. => Tightening torque: 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

Subsequent work for ELV control unit

1. Install the steering column. -> 481519 Removing and installing steering column - section on "Installing" 481519 Removing and installing steering column
2. Carry out work instruction after disconnecting the battery. -> 2706IN00 Work instructions after disconnecting the battery
3. If a new ELV control unit was installed, it must be taught using the PIWIS Tester 9718. See section entitled Programming ELV control unit.
