WM 395901 Description of symptoms in transmission - Checking sealing ring for all-wheel drive flange shaft
General information
These symptom-based repair instructions replace the instructions dated 31.07.2008.
Changes/additions compared to the previous instructions:

Only for 997 Carrera 4 and 997 Turbo vehicles: Instruction to replace the relevant flange shafts at the same time.
Symptom
Oil mist on underbody close to all-wheel drive final drive
Causes and remedial action
This is caused by a very slight oil leak around the sealing ring after the intake phase. No work must be carried out in the event of a complaint.
If drops of oil are forming on the flanges of the all-wheel final drive:
- Only the sealing ring in question must be replaced as of transmission number "Z9751 1 14798".
- The sealing ring in question and the related flange shaft must be replaced up to this transmission number (Z9751 1 14798).
Checking sealing ring for all-wheel drive flange shaft
1. Remove underbody cover. -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody - section on "Removing"
2. Check the flanges on the all-wheel final drive to see if there are any drops of oil forming.
3. If there are no drops forming, the underbody cover can be installed.
4. If there are significant drops of oil forming close to the flange:
4.1. Only replace the sealing ring as of transmission number "Z9751 1 14798", -> 39591950 Removing and installing sealing ring for front halfshaft flange.
4.2. Replace both the sealing ring and the relevant flange shaft up to transmission number "Z9751 1 14798", -> 396319 Removing and installing front halfshaft flange.
5. Install cover for front underbody. -> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody - section on "Installing"
