Steering Wheel Operation
Operation/Steering Wheel Display
In addition to automatic gearshifts, the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) also allows the gears to be selected manually using the new gear selector or the shift buttons on the new 3-spoke sports steering wheel. For customers who require particularly sporty gear shifting, an optional 3-spoke sports steering wheel with shift paddles is offered with the new 911 Turbo for the first time.
The shift functions of the shift paddles are clearly identified by embossed markings above the steering wheel spokes. The right-hand shift paddle "+" is used for upshifting and the left-hand shift paddle "-" for downshifting. The shift paddles are mounted on the steering wheel, like on the RS Spyder.
In the center of this display is a silver-colored PDK logo. Depending on the function button pressed, the display "SPORT" or "SPORT PLUS" illuminates in the steering wheel to the left of the PDK logo instead of in the instrument cluster (e.g. "SPORT" for vehicles with manual transmission).
When the Launch Control function is recognized (SPORT PLUS button pressed, brake pedal depressed, full throttle incl. kickdown and engine speed approx. 5,000 rpm), the "LAUNCH CONTROL" display illuminates in the steering wheel to the right of the PDK logo. This display goes out after driving off with Launch Control (brake released) or cancellation of this starting operation, e.g. by releasing the accelerator pedal.
