WM 610949 Eliminating symptoms in body interior - Reworking convertible-top inner lining

General information

Symptoms

Clamping rail on convertible-top inner lining becomes detached.

Causes and remedial action

The clamping rail on the convertible-top inner lining becomes detached due to insufficient locking force.

In the event of a complaint, the clamping rail must be secured with three additional fastening screws on vehicles manufactured before the specified date of introduction December 2006.

Preliminary work

1. Hold cover -1- at the top of the front area with your fingers and release it by pressing it forward -arrow A-. Pull cover -1- down off the hood lock -2- ( -arrow B- ).

2. Unscrew fastening screw -1- on the left and right at the hood inner lining connection -2- at the front -arrow-.

3. Pull sewn-on clamping rail -1- off the roof frame -2- at the front left and right -arrows-.

4. Pull sewn-on clamping rail -1- off the roof frame -2- at the rear left and right -arrows-.

5. Unclip expander nuts -1- from the covering strip -2- and roof frame at the rear -arrows-.

6. Unscrew fastening screws -1- at the left and right. Pull clamping rail -2- out of the main folding top bow -arrow-.

Reworking convertible-top inner lining

1. Remove felt strips -1- on the left and right on the main folding top bow -2- ( -arrow- ).

2. Cut two felt strips each approx. 100 mm long.
3. Stick felt strips -1- to the outside of the clamping rail -2- at the left and right in the cut-out area.

4. Attach clamping rail -1- to the main folding top bow. Secure joint at the left and right with fastening screws -2-.

5. Drill through clamping rail and main folding top bow.

5.1. Drill through the clamping rail -1- and main folding top bow -2- at the left and right at dimension -X= 75 mm- using a 3.2 mm drill bit.
5.2. Drill through the clamping rail -1- and main folding top bow -2- at the middle at dimension -Y= 420 mm- using a 3.2 mm drill bit.
6. Secure clamping rail -1- with fastening screws -2- on the main folding top bow -3-.

Subsequent work

1. Position covering strip -1- on roof frame and press in expander nuts -2- ( -arrow- ).

2. Fit sewn-on clamping rail -1- on the roof frame -2- at the rear left and right -arrows-.

3. Fit sewn-on clamping rail -1- on the roof frame -2- at the front left and right -arrows-.

4. Secure the hood inner lining connection -2- at the front with fastening screws -1- on the left and right -arrow-.

5. Slide cover -1- over the hood lock -2- from the rear -arrow A- , press upwards -arrow B- and bend it forward slightly with your fingers. The cover -1- clicks into place.
