197019 Removing And Installing Radiator - Turbo
WM 197019 Removing and installing radiator - Turbo
Preliminary work
Preliminary work for removing radiator
Installation position
1. Remove front left or right wheel. -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel - section on "Removing" 440519 Removing and installing wheel
2. Remove front left or right wheel housing liner. -> 505619 Removing and installing front wheel housing liner - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
3. Remove front apron. -> 631519 Removing and installing front apron - section on "Removing"
4. Remove air guides in front of the radiators. -> 192419 Removing and installing air guide - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
5. Remove electric fan. -> 190819 Removing and installing electric fan - section on "Removing"
Information
The air-conditioning condenser remains in the vehicle. The air-conditioning system is not opened.
6. Loosen air-conditioning condenser from the radiator.
6.1. To do this, unscrew four tapping screws (T 27) used to secure the air-conditioning condenser to the side radiator.
7. Drain coolant at the radiators.
7.1. Disconnect coolant hoses for the engine.
Removal
Removing left radiator
WARNING
Caustic fluids
- Danger of chemical burns
-> Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
-> Wear personal protective gear.
-> Ensure that there is good ventilation.
-> If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.
WARNING
Hot fluid
- Danger of scalding
-> Let the fluid cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.
Information
Despite the fact that the coolant has been drained, residual amounts of coolant can still emerge at the joints during removal. Have sufficient collecting containers and cloths to hand.
1. Relieve pressure in the cooling system. To do this, carefully open the cap on the coolant reservoir.
2. Disconnect coolant hoses at the coolant pipes.
2.1. Release spring clamps -arrows- at the Henn couplings and pull off coolant hoses -1-.
2.2. Do not overstretch spring clamps, thereby impairing the function of the spring clamps.
Coolant hoses, radiator
3. Disconnect coolant hoses from the radiator flanges.
3.1. Release spring clamps -arrows- at the Henn couplings and pull off coolant hoses.
3.2. Do not overstretch spring clamps, thereby impairing the function of the spring clamps.
Radiator connections
4. Unclip sheetmetal clip and remove it together with the washer.
Retaining frame for side radiator
5. Remove the radiator by pulling it downwards.
6. Check O-rings on the coolant hoses and replace them if necessary.
Removing right radiator
The procedure for removing the right radiator is the same as for the left side.
Installation
Installing left radiator
1. Guide the radiator into the retaining frame and secure it.
2. Fit and clip in washer and sheetmetal clip -arrow-.
Retaining frame for side radiator
Information
- Grease O-rings, hoses and lines in the cooling system with Kluber plus Gel (Part No. 000.043.205.93).
3. Fit coolant hoses on the radiator.
3.1. Grease O-rings.
3.2. Fit coolant hoses on the radiator flanges and slide them in until the spring clamps -arrows- engage at the Henn couplings.
3.3. Check that the coolant hoses and spring clamps are seated correctly.

4. Fit coolant hoses to coolant pipes.
4.1. Grease O-rings.
4.2. Attach coolant hoses -1- to the coolant pipes and slide them in until the spring clamps -arrows- engage at the Henn couplings.
4.3. Check that the coolant hoses and spring clamps are seated correctly.

Installing right radiator
1. The procedure for installing the right radiator is the same as for the left side.
Subsequent work
Subsequent work for installing radiator
1. Fill in coolant. -> 193817 Draining and filling coolant - Turbo (includes bleeding the system) - section on "Filling" Service and Repair
2. Check the radiator and cooling system for leaks. -> 190101 Checking cooling system
3. Secure the air-conditioning condenser at the radiator.
To do this, secure the air-conditioning condenser to the radiator with four tapping screws (T 27) and tighten the screws.
4. Install electric fan. -> 190819 Removing and installing electric fan - Turbo - section on "Installing"
5. Install air guides in front of the radiators. -> 192419 Removing and installing air guide - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
