Preliminary work
DANGER
Vehicle can fall down
- Risk of squashing or crushing
- Risk of damage to the vehicle
-> Do not place any solid objects under the raised vehicle.
-> Ensure that the lifting platform is prevented from lowering.
-> Remove solid objects before lowering the vehicle.
-> Raise the vehicle only at the take-up points provided.
-> The outer take-up points should be used primarily.
1. Raise the vehicle.
=> 4X00IN01 Lifting the vehicle
2. Place protective covers on the vehicle to avoid damaging the vehicle.
3. Remove air cleaner housing.
=> 242519 Removing and installing air cleaner housing - Turbo - section on "Removing"
4. Remove tailpipe covers.
=> 263519 Removing and installing tailpipe cover - Turbo - section on "Removing"
WARNING
Objects or loads falling down
- Risk of squashing or crushing
-> Secure components to prevent them from falling down.
Information
- It may only be supported over a large area at the oil pan.
- Localised loading is not permitted.
Information
- When lowering, the engine must not rest on the rear axle cross member.
5. Lower the engine.
5.1. Support the engine at the oil pan using the hydraulic jack HH2 WE 1033 and transmission jack plate of transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A WE 1082.
5.2. Alternative to transmission jack plate:
Mounting peg
Screw on the mounting peg 9163/2 in the middle using a wooden board (40 x 30 cm) and use it as a support.
=> Mounting peg
5.3. Loosen and unscrew two M12 special nuts (internal Torx, screw insert T55) -1- on the engine mounting (hydraulic mount) at the left and right.

5.4. Slowly lower the engine with the hydraulic jack.
Removing knock sensor

1. Remove oil filler neck.

Information
Before removing the knock sensor, mark the installation position using a water-resistant marker.
2. Remove knock sensor for cylinder bank 1-3.

2.1. Release and pull off cable plug -3-.
2.2. Unscrew external Torx screw (M8 x 35) -4- and remove the knock sensor.

1. Remove (centre) intake-air distributor and intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 4-6.

2. Remove holder for fuel high-pressure connecting line.
Fuel line holder
2.1. Unscrew external Torx screw (M6 x 45) -3- on the holder.
2.2. Loosen external Torx screw M6 x 12 -2- on the holding clamp.
2.3. Slide holder -1- to one side.
Information
Before removing the knock sensor, mark the installation position using a water-resistant marker.
3. Remove knock sensor for cylinder bank 4-6.

3.1. Release and pull off cable plug -2- on the knock sensor.
3.2. Unscrew external Torx screw (M8 x 35) -3-.
3.3. Remove knock sensor -1-.
Installing knock sensor

Information
Observe installation position marking during installation.
1. Install knock sensor for cylinder bank 1-3.
Knock sensor for cylinder bank 1-3
1.1. Clean sealing surface of knock sensor with a cloth.
1.2. Fit and tighten external Torx screw (M8 x 35) -4- on the knock sensor.
Observe the specified tightening torque for the screw because otherwise the knock sensor might not function properly!
=> Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
1.3. Push on and engage the cable plug -3-.
2. Install oil filler neck.

Information
Observe installation position marking during installation.
1. Install knock sensor for cylinder bank 4-6.
Knock sensor for cylinder bank 4-6
1.1. Clean contact surface of knock sensor with a cloth.
1.2. Fit knock sensor -1-.
1.3. Fit and tighten external Torx screw (M8 x 35) -3- on the knock sensor.
Observe the specified tightening torque for the screw because otherwise the knock sensor might not function properly!
=> Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
1.4. Push on and engage the cable plug -2-.
2. Install holder for fuel high-pressure connecting line.
Fuel line holder
2.1. Slide holder -1- and holding clamp into installation position.
2.2. Tighten external Torx screw M6 x 12 -2- on the holding clamp.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
2.3. Fit and tighten external Torx screw (M6 x 45) -3- on the holder.
=> Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
3. Install intake-air distributor for cylinder bank 4-6 and (centre) intake-air distributor.

Subsequent work
WARNING

1. Raise the engine.
1.1. Support the engine at the oil pan using the hydraulic jack HH2 WE 1033 and transmission jack plate of transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A WE 1082.
1.2. Alternative to transmission jack plate:

Screw on the mounting peg 9163/2 in the middle using a wooden board (40 x 30 cm) and use it as a support.

1.3. Slowly lift the engine with the hydraulic jack.

1.4. Fit and tighten two special M12 nuts (internal Torx, screw insert T55) -1- on the engine mounting (hydraulic mount) at the left and right.
=> Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ftlb.)
2. Install tailpipe covers.

3. Install air cleaner housing.

4. Remove protective covers from the vehicle.
