WM 559049 Eliminating symptoms on body exterior - Reworking rear lid (water dripping into cabin when opening rear lid/SY2510)

General information

Symptom

Water from the side of the rear lid can drip into the luggage compartment or onto the stainless steel protective strip when opening the rear lid.

Cause, date of introduction and remedial action

Cause

Water collecting in the join under the tailgate between the rear window adhesive and sealing profile. When the tailgate is opened, the water under the seal flows out to the side.

Remedial action

Introduce the sealing compound on both sides of the tailgate in the area of the windscreen seal.

Tools and materials

- 000.043.204.38 => Sealing compound ("bonds and seals")
- Masking tape
- Clean cloth
- Cleaning agent (isopropanol, commercially available)

Reworking rear lid

1. Clean the tailgate in the area of the left and right windscreen seal using a clean cloth and a suitable cleaning agent (isopropanol) to remove any dust and grease.
2. Mask the visible painted surfaces in the area of the left and right windscreen seal using masking tape.
3. Introduce the sealing compound and adhesive into the open cavities on both sides (left and right) above and below the windscreen seal ( -Magnifying Glass- ) and in this way seal them.

4. Remove the masking tape and if necessary clean dirty painted surfaces using a clean cloth and a suitable agent (e.g. isopropanol) to remove any sealant and adhesive residues.
