Procedures
WM 201549 Eliminating symptoms in body interior: Reworking sender for fuel-level indicator (Fuel consumption display incorrect) (SY1410)
General information
Symptom
After filling the fuel tank fully, the fuel-level indicator in the instrument cluster only shows that the tank is approx. 7/8 full. After driving a short distance, the fuel-level indicator in the instrument cluster changes to "Full" (in most cases).
Causes and remedial action
The spherical float for the right fuel level sender gets stuck at its own wire harness when filling the fuel tank.
This is possible on vehicles that were produced at the beginning of model year B (2011).
In the event of a complaint, retrofit a tie-wrap on the fuel level sender wire harness at the fuel pump wire harness.
Information
We recommend that you only carry out the required work when the fuel tank is approx. 1/4 to 1/5 full. Please pass this information on to your customers.
Tools and materials
Preliminary work
1. This measure relates only to the right fuel level sender.
Complete the steps - up to opening and lifting the right connection unit - as described under -> 201519 Removing and installing fuel level sensor - section on "Preliminary work" Removal and Replacement.
Fitting tie-wrap
1. Lift up the connection unit and secure the wire harness cables with a small tie-wrap in accordance with -Fig. 1 - arrow-.
Information
Cut off extra length on the tie-wrap. When doing this, hold on tightly to the piece of the tie-wrap to be cut off and make sure it doesnot fall into the fuel tank.
