WM 9170K2 Calibrating control unit for Lane Change Assist
Tools
Technical values
Information
When does Lane Change Assist need to be calibrated?
The Lane Change Assist control units must be re-calibrated in the following situations:
- When one or both Lane Change Assist control units are replaced.
- When the installation position of one or both Lane Change Assist control units is changed.
- When body repairs are carried out on the rear of the vehicle.
- When the rear bumper/rear apron is removed or moved out of position.
Preliminary work
Information
The calibration process sends out radar beams, which the Doppler generator reflects. This simulates a vehicle.
A certain number of radar beams are expected in a defined time due to the defined position of the Doppler generator.
Deviations indicate that the control units are not at the correct installation position.
These deviations are displayed on the Porsche System Tester.
Information
The following tools are required for calibration:
- Calibration plates and wheel centre mountings: Calibration unit VAS 6350 WE 1368.
- Doppler generator: Calibration unit for Lane Change Assist VAS 6350/4 WE 1375
- Spacing laser: Spacing laser VAS 6350/2 WE 1369
Information
The following conditions must be observed in order to perform calibration:
- Calibration must only be performed on level ground.
- The vehicle must be empty.
- Wheels must be positioned straight ahead.
- Vehicle doors must be closed.
- Tyres must have the specified air pressure.
- On vehicles with air suspension, the chassis must be set to Normal Level and suspension levelling (air suspension) must be completed.
- The retractable trailer hitch must be retracted.
- The engine must not be running during calibration.
- Check that there is adequate space behind the vehicle and that there are no metal objects/obstacles within 5 metres of the rear of the vehicle.
- Make sure that no objects are moved or no-one moves behind the vehicle during calibration.
- There must be no heavy soiling in the sensor area on the rear apron.
- There must be no stickers in the sensor area on the rear apron.
- The calibration plates, wheel centre mountings and the Doppler generators must be fitted, centred/aligned in accordance with the operating instructions.
Workshop conditions
- The system must only be calibrated in a suitable area of the workshop.
- This area of the workshop must be sheltered from all environmental influences, such as rain, snow and swirling dust.
- The workshop must be at room temperature.
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set up the calibration unit VAS 6350 WE 1368 behind the vehicle in accordance with the operating instructions for VAS 6350.
Setup overview (shown on a Panamera)
2. Fit the wheel centre mountings and reflectors on the vehicle in accordance with the operating instructions for VAS 6350. The reflectors must be hanging freely.
Fitting reflectors
Reflector must be hanging freely
3. Align the work surface with the middle of the vehicle and adjust the line laser to suit the calibration plate in accordance with the operating instructions for VAS 6350.

-> Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least => Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
The PIWIS Tester II 9818 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818.
Setup overview (shown on a Panamera)
1. The following tools are required:
1.1. Calibration unit VAS 6350 WE 1368
1.2. Spacing laser VAS 6350/2 WE 1369
1.3. Calibration unit for Lane Change Assist VAS 6350/4 WE 1375
Setup overview with Doppler generator
2. Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on ignition and press F12 to continue.
3. Select the vehicle type and start the Tester.
4. Select the Lane Change Assist control unit in the overview.
5. Select Calibrate Lane Change Assist.
6. Follow instructions on the Tester.
7. Calibration of the master and slave control unit for Lane Change Assist is menu-driven.
8. Read the information displayed on the Tester and proceed according to instructions.
9. Once you have calibrated Lane Change Assist, test-drive the vehicle and check the Lane Change Assist function.
10. After the test, read out the fault memory. If there are faults stored, correct the faults in accordance with the fault-finding strategy.
