Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair


WM 197819 Removing and installing coolant temperature sensor for controlling engine temperature

Preliminary work

1. Drain coolant. -> 193817 Draining and filling coolant (includes bleeding) Service and Repair
2. Press tensioning arm of tensioning roller in -direction of arrow-. In non-tensioned position, screw one M8 x 59 screw into the threaded bore -A-.

3. Remove tensioning roller for poly-V-belt.
3.1. Unscrew screws -arrows- and remove tensioning roller.

Removing coolant temperature sensor for controlling engine temperature

1. Disconnect connector for temperature sensor and expose the cable.
2. Unscrew fastening screw for temperature sensor using ALLEN KEY T10058.

NOTICE

Cooling system blocked

- Engine overheating

-> Remove small parts

WARNING

Hot fluid

- Danger of scalding

-> Let the fluid cool down.
-> Wear personal protective gear.

3. Pull temperature sensor out of the cylinder head and remove it by pulling it forward.

Information

- If the O-ring and support washer are still in the cylinder head, they must be removed using a piece of wire.

The following components must be on the temperature sensor.

Installing coolant temperature sensor for controlling engine temperature

1. Coat O-ring with coolant.
2. Move temperature sensor into installation position and press it into the cylinder head using a suitable tool.
3. Perform further installation in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
Tightening torque for temperature sensor: 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

Subsequent work

1. Fill in coolant. -> 193817 Draining and filling coolant (includes bleeding) Service and Repair
