Preliminary work

Removing battery

WARNING

Caustic fluids

- Danger of chemical burns

-> Avoid contact with caustic fluid.
-> Wear personal protective gear.
-> Ensure that there is good ventilation.
-> If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

WARNING

Static battery charge

- Battery can explode
- Electrical discharges

-> Do not rub the battery with a dry cloth.

Information

- The battery is located in the battery case under the left front seat.

- The vehicle must be supplied with external power at the jump lead starting points so that the seat can be moved even when the battery is completely discharged. => External power connection, jump lead starting





Installation position of battery

Information

Switch off all loads and remove the ignition key.

- Do not disconnect the battery while the engine is running.

- Disconnect and reconnect battery with extreme caution.

- Do not rub the battery with a dry cloth.

1. To remove the battery for the first time, cut the carpeted floor along the perforation using a carpet knife.
2. Open the tension hooks on the battery case cover using a screwdriver.
3. Remove the battery case cover.
4. Release and unplug electric plug connection at the battery sensor.

5. Risk of short circuit! First disconnect the negative cable, then the positive cable.

6. Unscrew the fastening screw -1- on the sheetmetal bracket and remove the battery mount.

7. Unscrew the fastening screw for the battery mount -2- and remove the battery mount.
8. Pull off vent hose -3- on the battery.
9. Lift the battery up and out.

Installing battery

WARNING

Incorrect handling of safety bolts

- Danger of injury
- Loss of torque

-> Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.
-> Observe specified tightening torques.
-> Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.

Information

- Make sure that the two ends of the vent hose are routed and inserted correctly.

1. The battery is installed in reverse order to removal.
2. Fit the battery mount and tighten the fastening screw to => Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).
3. Position sheetmetal bracket and tighten the fastening screw to => Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ftlb.).
4. Risk of short circuit! First connect the positive cable, then the negative cable. Tighten fastening nuts to => Tightening torque: 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.).

Subsequent work
