Battery Manager (BMS)
Battery Manager (BMS)
A separate OBD-compatible control unit that monitors all important battery characteristics, processes data and communicates with the hybrid manager is located on the side of the service disconnector and connections. The battery manager (Battery Management System) is connected to the central hybrid manager in the DME control unit via the CAN Hybrid bus and the CAN Drive bus. The input variables include data from the sensors that monitor the module voltage as well as the module and battery temperature, and a current sensor that monitors the SOC (state of charge) and the battery load. The battery manager controls the two fan motors that cool the high-voltage battery. Other important functions of the battery manager include monitoring the electrical isolation of the high-voltage hybrid components from the rest of the vehicle and calculating the battery charge state.
