Preliminary work

Removing brake shoes
Information
It is not necessary to grind down the brake shoes if you are simply removing/installing the brake shoes.
Set the brake shoes to the basic setting if necessary and calibrate the system -> 468315 Adjusting and calibrating brake Adjustments.
- Mark the brake shoes -1- and adjustment device -3- according to their installation position.
- Secure the adjustment device -3- to prevent it from turning.
Brake shoe components
1. Loosen the adjustment device -3- with a screwdriver. => Adjustment device (shown as an example)

WARNING
Preloaded or pressurised components
- Risk of injury (e.g. crushing or bruising) when removing and installing springs.
-> Do not reach into the danger area.
-> Relieve the tension on components before starting work.
-> Secure components to prevent them from loosening suddenly.
-> Wear protective gloves and goggles.
-> Be very careful when working on the brake system.
2. Remove compression springs using a Philips screwdriver -2-.
3. Disengage both tension springs -4 and 5- ( -arrows- ).

4. Remove brake shoes using adjustment device -1 and 3-.
5. Secure actuator for parking brake with a tie-wrap -arrow-.

Installing brake shoes
Brake shoe components
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Align the entire unit in the middle.
Observe correct tightening torques.
1. Remove tie-wrap at actuator for parking brake.
2. Insert brake shoes with adjustment device -1 and 3-.

3. Engage both tension springs -4 and 5-.
4. Install compression springs -2- and plug in speed sensor connector again.
Subsequent work
1. Install brake disc. -> 465319 Removing and installing rear brake disc 465319 Removing and installing rear brake disc
2. Adjust and calibrate the brake shoes. -> 468315 Adjusting and calibrating brake Adjustments
The brake shoes must be ground down during adjustment and calibration.
3. Fit the wheel. -> 440519 Removing and installing wheel Removal and Replacement
