Preliminary work
1. Raise the vehicle -> 4X00IN Lifting the vehicle Service and Repair.
2. Remove engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard - section on "Removing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard-> 519219 Removing and installing cover for front underbody - section on "Removing"
3. On naturally aspirated engines: Remove cooling fan housing. -> 19201901 Removing and installing cooling fan housing (radiator frame) - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
4. On Turbo engines: Remove cooling fan housing. -> 19201903 Removing and installing cooling fan housing (radiator frame) - section on "Removing" Service and Repair
5. Drain engine oil. -> 170117 Changing engine oil and oil filter - section on "Draining" Removal and Replacement
Removing oil/water heat exchanger (oil cooler)
Information
The oil/water heat exchanger is fitted at the front of the oil guide housing.
Oil/water heat exchanger, oil filter
1. Vehicles with PDCC: Loosen the fastening nuts -1- on the holder for the PDCC lines and lower the holder -2- with the lines -arrow-.

2. Place a drip pan under the oil/water heat exchanger. (Coolant and oil will run out during disassembly.)
3. Disconnect coolant hoses.
Removing coolant hoses
3.1. Loosen the clips -1- on the coolant hoses at the oil/coolant heat exchanger and slide them onto the hoses -A-.
3.2. Clamp the hoses using hose clamp 3093 or hose clamp 3094.
3.3. Clip the coolant hose assembly -3- on the oil/water heat exchanger from the holder -2- ( -B- ).
3.4. Pull off the hoses -C-.
4. Unscrew fastening screws -1-.

5. Tilt the oil/water heat exchanger up in direction of travel -A-.
6. Remove oil/water heat exchanger.
Installing oil/water heat exchanger (oil cooler)

Oil/water heat exchanger, oil filter
- The oil/water heat exchanger is installed in reverse order to removal.
- Always replace the O-rings -6- between the oil/water heat exchanger and the oil guide housing.
- Always use the correct tightening torques -> 1001TW Tightening torques, tightening sequences, assembly overviews [1][2]Specifications.
1. Vehicles with PDCC: Position holder -2- for the PDCC lines and tighten fastening nuts -1-.

Subsequent work
1. On naturally aspirated engines: Install cooling fan housing. -> 19201901 Removing and installing cooling fan housing (radiator frame) - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
2. On Turbo engines: Install cooling fan housing. -> 19201903 Removing and installing cooling fan housing (radiator frame) - section on "Installing" Service and Repair
3. Install engine guard. -> 108019 Removing and installing engine guard - section on "Installing" 108019 Removing and installing engine guard
4. Fill in engine oil. -> 170117 Changing engine oil and oil filter - section on "Filling" Removal and Replacement
5. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary.
